This was our third stay at the Hood River Hotel and the second time we stayed in suite number 319. We enjoyed staying in this room. It had a full kitchen/dining room, bedroom with a comfortable queen bed, and a sitting room with a hide-a-bed sleeper sofa. The bathroom was spotlessly clean with a tub/shower and better quality bed and bath linens. The hotel lobby was inviting with comfortable seating and large fireplace.
However, we will mention that the floors of the old hotel are creaky and the windows are single pane. There are railroad tracks near the hotel that receive traffic on a regular basis. We were awakened by the trains during the night but were able to get back to sleep and the hotel does offer ear plugs upon request. We only mention this if you are a light sleeper.
The charm of the hotel and the walkable downtown location to many wonderful cafes/restaurants/breweries, for us, outweighs any negatives.

I really wanted to like this hotel- typically I do love historic hotels and accept them for what they are. However, despite the charm of a 100 year old building, I could barely sleep with the paper thin walls, trains going by regularly and not muffled at all due to the charming but useless old windows. The worst was the wood floors and the 2 inch crack under the door. Anytime someone walked by, it sounded like they were right in our room. I tried to stuff a pillow under the door to muffle the sound, but it didn't help. The location is great, the staff was friendly, and the price was good. But bring your earplugs!

Thank you for your review of your recent stay at Hood River Hotel. It is disturbing to find out that as our guest that you did not sleep well during your visit. Yes, indeed we are a historic hotel located in downtown Hood River with our windows and hardwood floors (3rd floor) from the original construction in 1911.

For the light sleeper, we openly recommend selecting an interior Courtyard or Townview guest room. If you need a suite Townview and Ground floor suites would be the best bet. For future visitors we suggesting calling the hotel and speaking with our staff to find the right style room for you. All 41 are uniquely different, no two are the same. We hope you will return to our hotel and give us another opportunity.

Normally we prefer the self-serve ease of a motel--drive up, plop down--but after scouting Hood River we wanted to be within walking distance of the many good downtown restaurants in the heart of the rather vibrant shopping district. We were happy to find the Hood River Hotel staff friendly and helpful in a down-home way. The entire hotel has been beautifully restored to its former glory.
We enjoyed sitting in comfortable sofas by the fire in the lobby and taking in the soul of the place. Our small, but well-appointed room had a four-post bed, ample furnishings and modern accoutrements. The room was clean and comfortable and softly said, "please stay a while." You don't often find a hat/coat rack and full medicine cabinet these days. We really enjoyed the authenticity. Such a welcome respite from Interstate Ersatz. We were situated on the third floor on the river side. The room's 5x5' window offered a nice view of the Columbia and beyond. Train spotters will be delighted by the proximity to tracks featuring trains with regularity befitting a major transcontinental line.
NB: We enjoy trains, and even find their sound soothing in the night. However I do wish I had slipped some tissue between the double-hung window sash earlier in the game (one shim at the overlap on right and left sides does the trick). Once I had quelled the rattling glass, I slept like a baby. Others, less delighted by trains, might wish to find a room away from the river.

Room Tip: NB: We enjoy trains, and even find their sound soothing in the night. However I do wish I had slippe...

This was a last minute overnight stay for us and we lucked out because they were offering a special for the month of December which was $100 for any room and they happened to have the family suite available so we took it. It was a suite with a living room, full kitchen, bedroom with a double and queen bed and two bathrooms. The hotel is old but updated enough to make it very comfortable. The room views of the river and the gorge mountains was spectacular. It's a little noisy with the traffic and trains nearby but didn't really find that a bother at all. We've always wanted to stay at this hotel and glad we had the chance at a such a great price and room choice. Breakfast the next morning was delicious with great service. Would definiately go back but will need to remember a bathing suit to enjoy the jacuzzi tub in the workout area.

The parking is on the street but they do offer a $5.00/day permit so you won't have to feed the meters all day. It's nice that you can walk anywhere downtown so just plan to park and walk. You are also only a block from the train station if you want to enjoy the Hood River Train ride.

Room Tip: Didn't get to see the regular rooms but given it is an old hotel I am sure they are small so I w...

This hotel was amazing. The charm of this hotel and the antique elevator were fantastic. It was like walking back in time and the hotel was so well cared for. The food was excellent and very tastey and affordable, the spa area and jacuzzi were very clean and well taken care of. The look on my grandchildren's faces when we went up in the antique elevator was priceless. I will be back for sure loved it!

Room Tip: All rooms are cute, families would like the suites very charming.

As other reviewers have pointed out, this is an old, historic building. With that in mind, it has old, historic issues! Sure, it is creaky and leaky, but there is a lot of charm to it. I appreciated the awesome location which is why we chose it, and why I will stay again. It isn't likely I would stay on a weekend, as I am a super light sleeper and I don't think I would get much sleep with a full house. Otherwise, for what it is, I give it a 4 out of 5. Don't go into with high expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Room Tip: Our corner suite was directly overlooking the railroad tracks and Hood River gets a lot of train tra...

As you rightly note, context is everything. We celebrate our historic roots and presence at the heart of Hood River's lively downtown scene. The great majority of our guests, like you, appreciate that when they walk through our doors. We emphasize friendly service combined with contemporary services -- free WiFi, flat-panel TVs, spa and fitness center -- in an historic environment. People who want something else have other options, all of which involve a car trip back to the downtown area. Every lodging choice involves some trade-offs. We like to think our property involves more trade-ons. See you next time.

Continuing our first-time visit to Oregon, we traveled from McMinnville through the Williamete Valley & on to Hood River. We stayed at the Hood River Hotel & were delighted. Everyone was so very nice. The hotel is a historic, beautifully appointed hotel with a very good restaurant. The lobby is furnished with antiques, sky-high ceilings & a huge blazing fireplace. Super comfortable.
Our room was nicely decorated, very clean & we had a view of the Columbia River. The accordian door to the small elevator was like being in Europe. Located so that it was walking distance to many excellent restaurants, great shops, two movie houses, & still with some beautiful Victorian & craftsman houses nearby. Small but very charming town & close to many wineries & Portland. We did a day trip to Portland (45 min. drive) & definitely loved the city. Lots of waterfalls to see. The main one being Multonomah Falls which was spectacular (even in the rain). The Multonomah Falls Lodge is a huge stone lodge with a great restaurant. We ordered hot chocolates & nestled in front of their huge stone fireplace after walking up to the falls & getting soaked, so be prepared.

Room Tip: One negative...parking is extremely difficult & you must pay for an all day pass or half day jus...

Thanks for your recent visit. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your time with us and exploring the Columbia River Gorge. Yes, we have no parking facility of our own, but have arranged with the city to offer our guests discounted half- or full-day parking passes for on-street parking. Our front desk agents take great pains to explain the policies to new arrivals. That said, we also have an arrangement with the city whereby guests who inadvertently receive a parking ticket can notify our staff and we can arrange a reduced payment. As with any downtown hotel property, we have a loading zone directly in front, so guests can deposit bags at the entry before parking. We look forward to your next visit.
