It is an historic hotel......creaky floors and smaller rooms you will not find a lot of amenities of a newer place....that being said. This is a great hotel, right in the middle of town. parking can be a problem as there is no parking lot, so you need to find on street parking, sometimes easy, most of the time not so much and you may need to walk a few blocks with your luggage (it is best to know this up front). The city also has meters now, so street parking will cost. The Hotel does have parking passes, all day is $5, so a good deal if you can use it (it does not apply to the main street, only can be used on side streets.) I found this to be a problem and was unable to use the pass, but I showed the Hotel the metered ticket I had to purchase and they refunded me the cost of the pass. the Hotel does have an elevator, so at least you do not need to pack luggage upstairs. The Hotel does have a restaurant I only noticed that it was open for breakfast, which was very good. You do receive a $10 credit towards breakfast which will cover most of the cost.

If you appreciate old and historic this is the place to stay. if you want sleek and modern - go somewhere else!

Loved, loved this hotel! It's an older hotel with tons of character. It's a throwback hotel. Doors, locks, radiated heat - windows are all original but well maintained. The staff is laid back and amazingly helpful. This is not a large property so you will know everyone that works there within a day. Once you park your car, you will not need it again. Everything in town is within walking distance. There are great breweries, wine shops, restaurants, and a view that is amazing. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We only stayed one night but I'd move into the hotel if I could! We had room 106 (the suite) and it was such a cool room- better than any apartment I've ever had. The staff was friendly and helpful, the lobby was a very cool place to hang and they gave a $10 credit toward breakfast in their adjoined café. I would never stay anywhere else if I were in Hood River.

Room Tip: Get room 106.

Old hotel with comfortable rooms. Floors are a bit creaky but staff and overall ambiance is nice. Easy drive to skiing at Mt Hood and the desk has discounted tickets. Several decent bars and restaurants are a short walk away. Parking is on the street but was easy to find a spot close to the hotel. Would definitely stay again.

Booked a room here for Valentines day with my wife. The room was very comfortable and we loved the old style to the furniture with modern comfort. The Hotel is right downtown so you can walk to just about anything you might want to see/do. On another note, I usually avoid any establishment that allows pets since in my experience you can mask the pet smell but never get rid of all the hair and if someone is highly allergic you pay the price. However, I did not learn about the pet policy until after we booked and we had no adverse reactions at all. Recommended! Also, there is a restaurant downstairs where we had breakfast and it was excellent!

Was here recently for 3 nights. This is not a place for anyone with any kind of mobility issues, since parking for hotel guests is all on streets that are on a hill. When you get to the beautiful front doors, you will have to hold the doors open while you struggle to get your luggage inside. The elevator is beautiful (original), but also requires some dexterity because there is a door that swings out and a heavy, brass grate that has to be held back simultaneously. I had a suite, but it contained 2 straight-backed chairs and the bed, no easy chairs. It makes no sense to discuss the kitchenette and bathroom, suffice it to say there's room for improvement.

Housekeeping did not include emptying and washing the coffee mug and coffee pot each day. I did that for myself.

The restaurant is not open for lunch and dinner, as the website says, but only for breakfast. And, if you stay at a government rate, you will not receive the $10 breakfast voucher either. As a person traveling for work, getting a little break on the breakfast bill and being able to eat dinner in the hotel are things that (can) make working while on the road just a little easier and things I took into consideration when I made my reservations.

The person I talked with to make reservations and all of the people I met at the front desk could not have been nicer. I'm sorry I can't be more complimentary about my experience there. As far as hospitality goes, this hotel can't be beat. But the actual accommodations are not particularly comfortable.

Hello Edmonds Washington;

Thank you for comments and thoughts regarding the Hood River Hotel. The Hood River Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and meets both ADA codes and the strict national historic regulation requirements. About half of the National Historic Landmarks are privately owned, we are one of those privately owned businesses and are currently celebrating 103 years in hospitality.

Hood River, Oregon is located in the Columbia River Gorge. Streets running east or west generally have a slope to them. Everything in the direction of north or south will be ‘uphill’ or ‘downhill.’ Edmonds Washington there is no right or wrong in this review; simply these are the facts of living in the gorge (hills and valleys). As well as operating a business in a National Historic Landmark.

At Exit #63 in Hood River Oregon. There are no big box chain hotels, stores or restaurants. Just privately owned beautifully restored historic buildings with unique businesses inside. Funky fun boutiques, brew pubs, art galleries, restaurants, wine tasting rooms and our hotel - the Hood River Hotel.

Funky, cozy, authentic, romantic , affordable dog friendly, great location, friendly staff, delicious breakfast, late machine, clean...

It's so easy to just roll into some chain motel and drop $60 bucks on a generic experience. You'd be missing out on a slice of real hood river. If your going to travel, why not sample the local flavor in lodging food and hospitality.
I mean what else do you need really.
