“Hood River Hotel”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

Fantastic location, right in the middle of the town, within walking distance to many fine
restaurants and fun shops. The hotel is old but well maintained and the staff is excellent.
The views of the river in the distance are fine but you have to remember the windows are
very old like the rest of hotel. The rooms are small, much like the rooms in Europe with ceiling
fans and central a/c which has no controls in the rooms. No problem, simply open a window.
Overall 3 couples all loved the hotel and the special price for the rooms with river views. We
also enjoyed the breakfast each morning with room discount.

Room Tip: Check on any specials, ask for rooms with view of river.

We stayed at the hotel this August and really enjoyed the historic building and all of the staff members. The rooms are quirky but clean and the hotel was surprisingly quiet when we were there. The breakfast in the morning was very good!

What a charming hotel. Clean, comfortable and nice views of the river. Staff were excellent and helpful. Loved the old world elevator. Breakfast was very good. Can't wait to go back. We didn't need the ear plugs, but it was a nice touch. Location was perfect in downtown.

Never mind the neon, Pietro's Pizza sign doing double duty as a night light in our room; the huge, ineffective "air cooler" from the 1950s; the I-84 traffic lullaby; the torn mattress; the feeling that you're showering with someone on the floor above; or the thrift-store furniture trying to be charming. No, I can deal with all of that. It's the 11 (ELEVEN!) trains that came through between 10:30pm and 6:00am. I don't know how so many of these other reviewers failed to comment on this, but it's a nightmare--one you're wide awake for all night long. It feels like the darn trains are coming right through your room. No surprise they give you two sets of earplugs. And no wonder the rate was so cheap ($109) and it was the only place with rooms open on this night.

On the positive side, if you're a heavy sleeper who won't mind 11 freight trains coming through, the hotel is centrally located. And the gal at the front desk was a doll--when she showed up. That's because she was busy cleaning rooms and changing sheets. Yep, one person to check you in, take reservations and take care if housekeeping. Ridiculous. Perhaps they could invest some of the money they're saving by not being properly staffed in energy-efficient, sound-muffling windows and modern A/C.

I will never stay here again, unless I need a train fix.

My family and I loved our two night stay in this hotel. We had a one bedroom, river-view suite on the third floor that would be a large apartment in a major city. Full sized bedroom, sizable bathroom (with a skylight), big kitchen well appointed and a large living/dining area. Whole thing was nicely decked out with things like full length floor mirrors and cabinetry. Hard wood floors. Big beautiful view of the river and the kiteboarding beach. We called the hotel direct and got a really great rate. After two days we tried to change our plans and stay another night but it did not work.

This is an old hotel. The floor squeaks a bit, it doesn't have a pool or a parking lot (street parking was cheap and no problem at all), and you can hear what's going on in the hallway. But it doesn't matter. The place is loaded with charm and weird corners. It is right downtown and you can walk to anything you want to do in Hood River from here. The staff were great, and adjoining restaurant had great food.

Just stay here. We will again.

Room Tip: River view if you can get it.

This is a great place to stay in Hood River - right in the center of town. Our room was a river view, though to be honest it was a little low and compacted with another building to have truly sweeping views of the columbia - there is also the interstate and the tracks and a lot of "stuff" - I think if you go for the higher floors the view would improve significantly.

Room was outfitted in a sort of old-style charm. However there was a very large (and fully new and functional) air conditioning unit which took up some floor space. Bed mattress was much too soft for my tastes - no problems for one night but I would not have been able to sleep on it for an extended stay.

Friendly staff - easy in and out. Delicious breakfast (plus 10 dollar voucher to help defray cost) onsite. Walking proximity to everything in town that matters, including waterfront (and Pfriem brewing). Parking is on the street.

May depend on the rate your paying. If at all reasonable, then this property is Recommended. I would return.

Room Tip: higher floors = better river views.

We lucked out finding this gem in Hood River. The place is in a wonderful location, has tons of authentic old world charm and the staff was over the top! We loved the fact that we were staying in an old hotel with modern amenities. ALL of the staff went out of their way to accommodate and they seemed to form a friendly family atmosphere by appearing to really enjoy their jobs. Dawn and Curtis were especially helpful. The breakfast voucher was appreciated and eggs benedict were great. We look forward to our next stay. Thanks Hood River Hotel for making our stay in Oregon very special.

Room Tip: We liked looking at the river so try for a room on the back.
