My husband and I wanted to get out of Portland for a night and have easy access to Mt. Hood in the am to go snowboarding. The HRH looked good. Basd on the reviews I read here I expected the rooms to be smaller. When making the reservation I booked a "courtyard" room based on the clerk's recommendation (there were also "river view" and "town view" rooms available, at the time). I was told it looked over a rooftop garden.
What they didn't tell me is that the windows also look directly across into 2 other rooms, meaning that if you want any semblanc of privacy you have to keep the drapes closed and the windows shut. In a hotel with smaller rooms, this can feel oppressive. I expressed my disappointment, and was told that there were no longer any other rooms available. They did not offer any consolation, and I would have frankly been happy with an extra $10 coupn for breakfast. Frustrating.
Also, when the restaurant is running we could definitely smell something in our room, and it wasn't pleasant. They did have some nice music in the lobby that evening, and the breakfast was ok. However, the coffee was TERRIBLE.
Overall, I think it's more affordable than a lot of places in Hood River for what you get, but then again, you get what you pay for.More
