We enjoyed a lovely stay at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. Being at this historic place is a step back in time. All of the staff gave us a warm welcome. The inviting lounge and bar has a fireplace with comfortable seating and natural light from all the windows. Our room had a beautiful view of the river and at night the entire garden is filled with twinkling lights. The linens are impeccable. The restaurant was excellent for dinner and breakfast. This is just the place for a special occasion or simply a getaway.

My husband and I needed a Getaway From It All weekend! Luckily for us, we chose the Columbia Gorge Hotel. This classic hotel has been tastefully undated so as not to lose the original charm and old time feeling of the place. Service was excellent, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere made us slow down and relax. Dinner in the restaurant brought scrumptious food and they wrapped our dessert for later eating in the room. It was the perfect getaway for us to sit in front of the room's fireplace and talk. Loved that they did not have wi-fi as we needed to "unplug" our lives for a bit and just reconnect. I recommend this hotel highly to anyone who truly wants to pause and catch their breath on the freeway of life.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms with gas fireplaces. So if you want one, be sure and ask if they are avail...

For years, every time we drove by on the freeway, we would comment to each other that "We should stay there some day." Well, that day finally arrived. We wanted to stay over a Friday night, but the hotel was fully booked for a Murder Mystery Weekend. So we selected a Thursday night stay in a king room with a view of the Columbia River. We were highly pleased. The hotel has been renovated and upgraded, but has not lost any of its historical appeal and sense of majesty. From the entrance with its view directly into the comfortable Valentino (yep, that's Rudolph) lounge with a huge fireplace and loads of comfortable seating to the spacious and nicely appointed bedroom, which was well worth the price, we were giddy with delight. The elevator truly is an antique, requiring an attendant to operate the rotating lever-controlled cab (no automatic floor adjustment here)--we asked the operator if she sometimes wears a uniform and small cap a' la the 1940s. The bathroom fixtures were modern and recently installed in a job well done. The room was very nicely appointed and the four-poster bed was very comfortable, although it was a little high and required some effort to hoist oneself up onto it. We had a corner room with view windows on two sides, including one facing the Columbia River and providing an excellent view. The hotel staff was very outgoing and friendly and the maid gave us a tour of the room and the second floor, including its history. The hotel grounds were nicely maintained and several walking paths afforded super viewing of the river and a 280 ft. waterfall immediately adjacent to the hotel. We ate dinner in town, but breakfast in the dining room was a treat. The menu offerings were varied, the prices were reasonable and the food was tasty. I had the excellent house made granola with fruit and orange juice for only $10. There was enough appetizing freshly cut melon and pineapple to make a breakfast all by itself. The room itself has a river-facing wall of huge windows affording lots of light and a pleasant feel of the out-of-doors.

Room Tip: Get a corner room with a river view--it is worth the price.

When we wanted to spend the night in Hood River at the last minute to attend the WAAM Fly-in, options for lodging were few. We were faced with the choice of an econo-motel or the CGH (B&B's required 2 nights). As we were "childless" for the weekend (a rarity for us) we decided to make it a romantic getaway and "recreate" an amazing evening we had there about 20 years ago despite the nearly $300 per night cost. (A LOT for us). I managed to book a room over the waterfall, where we stayed the previous time. We ate dinner in the lounge so that we could listen to the live piano music (again, just like our first visit). We were thrilled when it turned out to be the same person! After 4 hours we wandered up to our room. We commented many times how nice it was to just walk up stairs after dinner. When we arrived in our room we realized that the wedding reception (2 floors below) was SOOOOO loud and the base so heavy that it actually shook the room. Mind you this is at 9:30 on a Saturday. We figured that they would stop at 10 but no... it actually got louder. It was awful. After complaining to the front desk and being told that they had the room until 11PM, the music went back to the previous level. Then the guests moved out onto the patio. The language and topic of conversation which followed was like nothing i have ever heard. It is not fit to repeat...ever... period. Disgusting, vulgar, sexual... and I am pretty liberal. Yes, the windows were closed. No chance of romance for us. I then went down to the front desk... she was polite but there was not much she could do other than to request that they quiet down yet again. The party finally wound down some time after 11PM. This completely ruined our romantic evening. I could understand if a party went until 9:30 or so. However, there is absolutely NO excuse from management to book a wedding to run so late into the night when there are other guests whose visits are so negatively impacted. (I have a 17 year history in the B&B/hotel/restaurant business) I "think" they may have given us a few dollars off the room (and I mean a few) because there was a difference in price at checkout from what I thought I was quoted originally (cant be sure) but no apology in any form other than the poor front desk clerk who had to talk to me that night. Very, very disappointed.

The Columbia Gorge Hotel has the ambiance that takes you back to when it opened in 1921. The rooms have been modernized and for their size are outstanding. This is the first hotel we have had two luggage racks and two comfy chairs to watch tv. Thank you! It is interesting that you have to order ice and coffee, but that was ok. The room has a nice modern black and white decor bathroom. There is a soft and comfy four poster king bed. There is a flat panel tv and fridge as well. Nice view of the river from our room. Very romantic.

Our son recently married and we hosted the rehearsal dinner at Columbia Gorge Hotel & Spa. I live 600 miles south, so I let the bride and bridesmaids decide on the location. What a delightful experience! Our family members, who traveled from afar, let me know that with such a beautiful location, scrumptious food and the most friendly and attentive staff, the hotel was a wonderful experience for them. I agree. I was treated with utmost respect and kindness by all the staff. The food was divine, beautifully presented and delicious.

The parents of the groom (us) plan to return for a vacation and stay at this lovely hotel.

Stayed here two nights for a wedding. We had Rm 234 and 235 which were on the river view side. One room had a king bed and the other a queen. There is a shared bathroom in a common interior hallway between the two rooms. Each room has its own door to the main hotel hallway. This setup worked perfectly for my husband, self, daughter and little grandson. The beds were very comfortable with lovely bedding. The views from each room were great. The bathroom was a bit small and needed some upgrading. The hotel on the whole is charming. If you are looking for the old charm with new interior amenities, this is not it. Check to see if there will be a wedding going on during your stay. The music can be heard on the 2nd floor and the bar and restaurant area can be taken over by the celebration. I would have found that annoying if I were not involved in the wedding. The grounds are beautiful and meticulously maintained.
