It appears that the owners of this property started out with the intention of creating a a lovely McMansion in a very special spot in the midst of a pear orchard. There are some very nice features to the house. However, it also appears that somewhere about 3/4 of the way to completion, they ran out of money. Many of the most desirable features are incomplete. The many decks that should grace the structure were never built necessitating the permanent locking of most of the doors to the outside. This also prevented us from having any cool air from circulating through the house as there were almost no windows that could be opened. This compounded the issue of no air conditioning on the hottest weekend of the year! The house was advertised as a 7 bedroom home, but has only 5 bedrooms in the completed portion of the house. The 6th bedroom is located in the crudely and partially finished basement. The kitchen is another area of the house that is potentially a great feature of the house. It has two sinks, two garbage disposal units, two dishwashers and an expanse of lovely cabinetry. However, when equipping the kitchen with the most basic pots, pans and appliances it appears they obtained throw aways to prepare the house for rental. The coffee pot did not work (in fairness to rental agency, they replaced it the second day of our stay) and the toaster quit after one day. The furnishings were very basic. The bedding was of the lowest quality and the carpeting in the living room and upstairs was stained throughout. There was a chair in the master bedroom that was filthy. The water in the hot tub was murky and green. In addition, on the day that we arrived, the dumpster that sits just to the right of the house was over flowing with garbage. The garbage was not removed until the fifth day of our stay. There were exposed wires in various places and a broken ceiling fan.
We were in Hood River to celebrate our daughter's wedding. During our stay, we had occasion to visit similarly priced and similarly advertised rentals in Hood River. Our "chateau" did not compare in quality to these other properties. It most certainly did not live up to its description as "luxury in pear orchard".
