I've been meaning to write this review for nearly a year. We had been wanting to stay here for a couple years, but as we are last minute travelers when we travel around our home in Portland, I always found it booked well in advance. So, for my husbands birthday last year I got an early start and booked the orchard room for 2 nights. We are cyclists so like staying a bit out of town and honestly don't think the 10-15m trip into city center is a big deal, especially since this place is WAY better than any of the lodgings available in downtown. The room was extremely comfortable and private with no issues hearing other guests. The breakfasts were great, we did have a Japanese-inspired bento box with smoked salmon one am which was a pleasant surprise.
I want to also mention another experience we had with SR. For valentines day this year I received an email promoting a winemakers dinner they were hosting. What a great idea! We decided to combine this Friday night dinner with a snowshoeing trip to Mt. Hood beforehand. Unfortunately for us, we got stuck behind one, then two jack-knifed semis on highway 35 when highway 30 was already closed E-bound due to a land slide. There we were at 5pm with little hope of getting through. In the end I had to cancel 2h before the dinner, fully expecting to pay for at least the dinner. However, the next am I received a very kind message back from the owner telling me she was very sorry for our troubles and was not charging us for our late cancellation or the dinner. This is not something you will experience with every hotel/B&B and certainly hasn't been our previous experience at other places when emergencies have occurred. We really appreciated the kindness of the owners in this situation and will certainly be back.
