This motel was off the main road so it was quieter than some, it was also just across the car park from a very nice restaurant. We had a family suite, so I don't know what the ordinary rooms are like. We had a full size kitchen and masses of storage space, there were fluffy towels and it was very comfortable and we enjoyed our 4 nights stay there. However it did need a little TLC. There were small maintenance jobs that needed doing such as small holes in the floor, broken fly screens and trailing wires on the AC unit. The (very comfortable) settees in the lounge were in need of a good clean as was the oven. But all in all we'd stay there again.

If you are heading towards John Day and you aren't pitching your tent but you are on sort of a budget then I would recommend staying here. We have spent the last two weeks camping in Smith Rock but we wanted to do a short jaunt somewhere (Painted Hills, Sheep Rock, Picture Gorge, and Kam Wah Chung) and didn't feel like throwing up the tent for the one night we were out but didn't want to spent a hundred bucks for one night of sleeping.

When we got into John Day, we decided to check out the Dreamer's Lodge as it came recommended in the Moon tour book. It wasn't too expensive (around 58 after tax) so we could justify it. Also, there's free wifi, HBO, microwave and mini fridge, CLEAN and warm, fairly quiet and centrally located in the town. It's family owned and managed so I think that's how they keep it super clean and in great shape. The shower ran nice and warm with great spray. The bed was a little small but comfy (I think newer mattresses?)

I would highly recommend this place for a cheaper alternative to the big chain lodging in town.

Room Tip: We were in room 27.

The owner is extremely kind and helpful.

Our room was clean and comfortable with a king bed and recliner chair. The only drawback was that our very inconsiderate neighbors were up at 6 am and were extremely noisy.

The bathroom was clean, but there were a few hairs in the tub and brass cleaner residue left in handles of tub. We wiped it down so it was not a big deal.

Overall, very happy with the service and value of this hotel.

This is a great family-run motel. The wifi was strong, the room was clean. It is an older motel so the rooms are bigger than modern motel rooms. Slightly dated, but who cares when the bed is comfortable. The air conditioner was a bit on the noisy side, but it had to be to push the air around the big room. We were able to run it for a little while and turn it off when we slept.

The hotel looks older and outdated but it was clean, had comfortable beds and above all it was quiet. I hate a motel where you can hear your neighbors conversations. When we checked in there was no one else in the parking lot. Come morning we realized that we had neighbors on both sides of us but hadn't heard them at all. The manager was also very friendly and upgraded our 2 queen beds to a king for the same price. There is a restaurant across the parking lot The Outpost that has tasty meals. We had supper there and returned for breakfast in the morning both meals were great.

Great Room, friendly staff, very clean. The furnishings are a bit dated but in excellent condition. My only complaint in the tiny ironing board and no AC. The room was just a little too warm and no air movement. Otherwise I would highly recommend it. Strongest WiFi I have ever had in a hotel room!
