This was the perfect place to kick back with friends & enjoy the local flavor and character. The service was a little slow, but the owner bought us a round which fixed everyone's attitude. It was entertaining to see that Thursday night football was switched off in favor the rodeo finals. It's good to respect local culture, we'll be back.

Several of us stopped in a few weeks ago for lunch and drinks. Service was A+ ! Impressive as they were very busy. I tried a black oak beer that was fantastic. They also carry several other oregon beers including barley browns and terminal gravity. Food was well priced and extra effort was made in presentation and flavor was very good. Bottom line- a great destination for beer and food.

The 1188 Brewing Company opened in late August 2013. It is relatively small and some of the furnishings are spartan (folding tables with tablecloths), but this should not matter to the true beer connoisseur. They have a good selection of Oregon microbrews, including a couple of their own, which are solid but not spectacular. These were their first batches of beer, so there is great potential for the future. The menu is not extensive, but in my two visits, all the food I had was surprisingly good. The servers I had were very efficient and friendly. John Day is very fortunate to have an establishment like this.
