“wonderful view!”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

The one-bedroom room was on the first floor, wonderful view on the Ocean, good quality, well-equipped kitchen corner in the living room. But again, the view (and easy access to the beach) is unbeatable in relation to the price you pay! A place to go!

Room Tip: corner room, first floor!

We would definitely go back to the Ester Lee. We rented one of the cottages, which was all windows on the west toward the ocean, plus a big one facing north that gave a beautiful view up the beach. The place was immaculately clean, bathroom newly tiled, kitchen was equipped with better-than-average cookware, plus dishes and utensils. Stove top worked well, even though the words on the controls had worn off and it took awhile to figure out where the settings were. The fact that west-facing windows opened helped make up for the lack of a balcony. The staff was very nice. There is a large selection of DVDs for rent. The bed was decent. We needed to replace a light bulb in order to see in the kitchen area. The place is within walking distance of Robert's Book Store, a must-do stop whenever we're in Lincoln City. We could also walk down the beach and up a short road to the Nelscott area, with its Christmas shop and other little stores and coffee shop. There's a nice paved road down to the beach that might be a bit of a challenge for some coming back up the hill.

Our only frustration was the WiFi. This might not be a problem for some, but since I was there partly as a business trip that involved writing and internet access, my progress was definitely hindered at times. Connection was great at 4:30 a.m. (!) and into the morning. Evening was almost impossible at times. Apparently the more solid construction of these older buildings, plus the erratic nature of internet on the coast contributed to this. If you're counting on accessing the Internet, this might not be the best place for you.

If you're looking for a great view, good service, clean rooms, and a good price, and aren't worried about a modern look or lots of frills, this is the place to go!

Room Tip: They have a great website that allows a video tour of EVERY room. Look for a corner room to get the...

Ester Lee looks like an old throw back motor lodge from the 1950's, all rooms have good view of Pacific and most have completely unobstructed, gorgeous look out onto the ocean. Obviously being Pacific, we're talking sunsets and color-changing skyline, this motel provides a perfect vantage point. We stayed in room #1 (16 steps or so down to room), wall of windows facing ocean, simple, "rustic" decor/furnishings. Room was very clean, comfortable and at the price in August, perfect for a budget minded traveler. Right next door to the Inn at Spanish Head, so if you want more images of the view from Ester Lee, visit the Spanish Head website for more photos. There is nothing fancy here, in fact, it reminds you of the 40's/50's in nearly all aspects. Room has full size refrigerator, full size stove/oven, glassware, cookware, cutlery. Recommend this one for any who are not in need of finer furnishings or prefer modern room. No restaurant on site, several within a short drive.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean, visit the Ester Lee website for a virtual tour/pics of each room for motel...

We took our chance on the Ester Lee because of of all the good reviews about the ocean view but I also proceeded with caution because of so many reviewers comments' about how outdated and old the furnishings and decor were. My fears were put to rest when I walked in our studio. Ya, it was not fancy, with the prettiest and trendiest of room decor and linens, etc... But it was just perfect: cozy, warm, clean, and had the most outstanding ocean view from anywhere in our studio (we had the only one with jacuzzi tub).
I think those few complaining of a bad smell might have come from rooms with pets. If you don't want that, go to one like ours where pets are never allowed and you will not have a problem.
I loved how cute the cottages were from outside too and that we weren't attached to a giant hotel where you hear people running down the hall. You have a door that goes from outside to your cottage and the only people attached are on top. We heard footsteps a few times but that was all. Very quiet room.
Also, so many people commented on the "steep" trail down to beach. I guess my idea of steep is different than theirs - it did not seem that bad to me, maybe because it was on pavement and so user-friendly. I had imagined a steep sand trail or stairs or something.
My husband and I will be back to the Ester Lee again and will be requesting the same room. We couldn't have had a better time!

Loved my stay. Very unique room, beautiful ocean view. Can't wait to return. The staff is extremely professional and made us feel welcome. Glad we gave them a chance :). I can't say enough good things about the ocean view from our studio room. Thank you!

The Ester Lee is great. It's our second time staying here and it won't be our last. The view is amazing, and hearing the sound of the waves is very relaxing.

The cottages are older but quaint and comfortable. The staff is fantastic - they even held a large package for me for two weeks until my arrival! They provided recommendations for services we were looking for (dry cleaner, laundromat, hairdresser), and their suggestions did not disappoint.

Couple of things which make it a 4 instead of a 5: the wifi is terrible: unstable, irregular, weak. Also, there is beach access from the road behind the hotel, but clambering over the medium-sized rocks for the bottom 20+ feet to reach the sand is tricky at best, and even a bit scary if you're a chicken like me. Perhaps if the hotel and the residents worked together, the space could be cleared, maybe some stairs put in to make beach access easier. In Lincoln City, it's all about the beach.

Other than those two things, our week at the Ester Lee was wonderful and we were sad to leave. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Many, if not all, cottages are pet-friendly as well. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Ester Lee is the best place to stay in Lincoln City! The rooms were clean, this is a great location, and the staff are great people! I especially liked that I can bring my dog with me, and they even provided bedding for him! I will visit this place again, very soon!
