“Relaxing stay”
Reviewed 17 April 2013

We had a great weekend relaxing in Lincoln City. Really enjoyed our stay at Shearwater Inn! The staff was so friendly and accomodating of our little Maltese. Room was very clean and comfortable. Enjoyed the jetted tub. We will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Dog friendly rooms have jetted tubs, balconies, and fireplaces, which many hotels don't offer.

We stayed here for two nights for a spur of the moment get-away and found it a very pleasant place to stay. It's pet friendly, clean, and quiet. We booked the King Studio - it has a deck - and the room was perfect for two people. It had a nice sized sitting area, mini fridge, jetted tub, and very comfy bed with high thread count linens.

There is a wine and cheese social every night, a hot tub, and a nice selection of complimentary DVD's.

All in all a nice place to stay, affordable, and good location. It's not actually right on the beach but the view was still nice and the sound of the ocean was lovely.

We stayed the weekend and had a great time! This hotel has gone the extra mile in service. From the wine hour, free breakfast delivered to your door, to the dog basket it was all great. The one improvement would be the side chairs, not very soft.

This was our first visit to Shearwater Inn. What a great surprise! Everything was even better than advertised. The staff was very professional and caring. The rooms were immaculate and great views. The wine/cheese and morning continental breakfast delivered to our door made this a 10 PLUS stay. It was great to just walk out the door and dine at Kylos and then walk on the beach.
We are in Lincoln City 2 times a month and usually stay at 2 other hotels. This stay changed everything. I just now booked a stay for May.

Our family recently stayed at the Shearwater in Lincoln City during Spring Break week and we are ready to go back! The room was very spacious and clean throughout. There were zero issues during our stay and we found the hotel staff very friendly and helpful at all times.

Great ocean view, and sure there are rooftops obstructing some of the view but that is why people who don't want to look at anything but the ocean stay in ocean front hotels. I personally found the views to be wonderful from our room on the 5th floor.

A couple of nice features this hotel provides is the continental breakfast being delivered to your room each morning and the wine social in the evenings. Our breakfast was always delivered on time by the courteous hotel staff. And it is always nice to have someone else bring you food!
The wine social is a simple affair offering light snacks and the opportunity to visit with other hotel guests.

Our family dog enjoyed herself as well. She had a dog basket waiting for her filled with a dog sheet, dog towels, food dishes and treats. I have stayed at other dog friendly hotels and really appreciate how the Shearwater and the Looking Glass (also in Lincoln City) accommodate the furriest family members.

Thank you Shearwater Inn for making our stay so enjoyable. We look forward to another visit very soon!

We return to this wonderful hotel every year to relax and unwind. The bed is so comfortable, fireplace, deck overlooking ocean, jacuzzi tub in bathroom (something we look forward to relaxing in everytime) not to mention your custom made breakfast delivered to your door every morning!

Room Tip: the hotel is not right on the beach but has great view and easy access. Upper level floors (3,4) loo...

We have stayed at this hotel for years with the same dog through renovations and through ownership changes. Our most recent stay will definitely be the last time.

Check-in: We felt like we were bothering the staff when trying to check in. When we would ask a question, we would get a deer in headlights stare back, followed with an eye roll and ok.

Ocean view rooms: You can see the ocean across the street and between the restaurant and the other motel. You do have a lovely view of the restaurant roof, parking lot and back of the hotel that is closer to the beach.

Cleanliness: There were brown stains on the sheets and on the towels. They told me they doubted it but they’d look into it. There was dust on the extra blanket we pulled out of the closet. Management made a face, rolled their eyes at me and said they highly doubted there was dust. I spilled water on the tile floor in the entryway and took one of the towels to clean it up. The towel came up black and brown. Management told me that was because I had tracked in all that dirt. Maybe after a month of tracking in mud and dirt, I could have made it that dirty but not after a few minutes.

Bed: There was a large caved in area of the mattress and I slept on what felt like springs and wood planks. I didn’t discover the bad mattress or the stains on the sheets until after 10 p.m. when the office is closed. Management argued with me first questioning if it was my first time staying there, then saying there were brand new mattresses and that didn’t happen and then saying well maybe housekeeping hit the supports with the vacuum but probably not.

Wine Social: They leave about ten wine bottles out for people to self-pour and don’t monitor how much people are drinking or the age of the drinkers. So if you’re underage and can’t afford a fake ID, this is definitely the place to go. Stay away from the cheese and meat that is left out. It looked like it had been left out for days.

Dog Limitations: The dog size limit is 45 lbs. We have been staying here for 3 years throughout ownership changes with our well-behaved 7 year old 80 lb. lab. The new mgmt. told us we were grandfathered in so we continued to bring him. After multiple visits, they suddenly changed their minds when I complained about the cleanliness of the room. The manager actually suggested that we get rid of our dog so we can stay there. She should not be allowed to have a dog if she thinks of them as throw away objects. Also, the manager’s very large dog hangs out in the lobby all day which goes against their 45 lb. dog policy. She excused it by saying he doesn’t spend the night so I guess day visitors of large dogs is ok then.

Food: It’s a pretty limited breakfast but is one step up from cereal. It usually comes late, silverware and salt and pepper is a special request and the only interaction from the person dropping it off is being yelled at to leave it in the hallway. Please say hi to me before yelling at me. The meat and cheese left out at the wine social looked like it had been sitting out since the previous night.

Misc: We ordered wine for the room ahead of time. The corkscrew in the room was broken so we had to ask for a new one which we finally got with additional eye rolls. It would have been nice if that is one of the things they double-check if the guest is special ordering a basket for the room. Also, I noticed that everyone there with a dog had to keep requesting for the dog basket that is supposed to come in every room that has a dog.

Replies to this thread by Shearwater Inn are not welcome. You had your chance to respond when I was there and you accused me of lying. What would I have to gain by lying? I have been a loyal customer for years but your behavior offended me. So your lies now on this site to me and to others who have left bad reviews are not appreciated. Telling a disgruntled customer later that customer support is important to you or whatever other lies you write are not appreciated. What would be appreciated is if you cleaned your rooms and had friendly customer service. That isn’t too much to ask for.

Room Tip: Tip on how to find a good room? Stay at another hotel unless you want severe back pain.
