“Great location, view and overall experience”
Reviewed 9 July 2013

My boyfriend, dog and I stayed the Shearwater Inn. This was my first time staying in a dog friendly hotel and it was a wonderful experience. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was the location, the hotel is basically right on the water, has a great seafood grill in the parking lot and the beach access is right next to the infamous "D" river. The rooms were clean, well kept up and modern. We did not have a balcony, but we did have a view of the beach. Our room had a great fireplace and couch as well. Our room had a "dog" basket, which included clean sheets, dog towels, treats and two bowls. The only complaint I have is that a ceiling vent fell from the bathroom ceiling and hit my boyfriend. Yes, we were upset, but it looks as though it was some random fluke accident. The hotel gave us a free bottle of wine. Other than that, our stay was wonderful and I would highly recommend this hotel. Also, we stayed the next night in a dog-friendly hotel in Seaside, OR...to say the least, it was a terrible hotel, run-down, bad service and old, so the Shearwater Inn went above and beyond.

We have relied on The Shearwater Inn many times over the years for a get away without accommodation issues and again we were not disappointed. We have stayed several times now in a pet friendly parlor suite, this time we had an end room on the fourth floor. Had a good view, enjoyed the extra side window in the living room. The beds were so comfortable the traffic on Highway 101 was not an issue. Staff greeted us and our pet, Jazzy, with an aim to please attitude. Once again, we had a wonderful visit and would duplicate all the positive reviews on trip advisor as they are very accurate.

Thank you management, assistant management and staff!

Sharon

We stayed in room 5002 with a king size bed, gas fireplace, and balcony. The last 2 photos in my review show the view from our balcony. You look out over the Sea Gypsy parking lot and for rooms on the end you also look over Kyllo's restaurant. Highly recommend this floor for the best views. Elevator is provided. Ice machine on second floor.

A refrigerator and microwave are in the entry. Coffee machine in the bathroom. 2 nice chairs for sitting in front of the fire with TV and DVD player above the fireplace. Awkward for watching TV in bed as the TV is angled away from the bed. Fireplace is nice for chilly nights but the rooms do not have air conditioning or a fan. Its was a bit stuffy at night with weather in the upper 60s during the day. We left the balcony door open to cool off. A continental breakfast is delivered to your room at the time you choose. Granola, bagel, pastries, fruit, hard boiled egg, and yogurt being the main choices. The lobby has a selection of DVD's to borrow.

Pluses include being able to walk to Kyllo's, the beach, and some shopping. A Chinese and Japanese restaurant also deliver to the hotel. Down side is the lack of ventilation if the weather is warm on the top floor. Sunset on the balcony is fabulous. There have been some nice updates to this hotel including comfy beds and new carpeting with a nice lobby. We will most likely stay here again.

Room Tip: Top floor for view.

Only one room was left with a King bed when we made the reservation. I think we were on the 3rd floor but still had a great view of the ocean-though it does overlook the other building closer to the ocean-you eventually forget it is there. You get to chose the breakfast foods you want-though it is not a hot breakfast, the fruit/yougurts/granola/beverages etc. are a nice change from other hotels and they bring it to your room. The ONLY problem I would have in staying there is if it had been hot-there is no airconditoning. Maybe with the ocean breeze you do not need it? We did sleep with the balcony door partially open and the sound of the ocean waves put me to sleep. As we were not on an end unit we did not hear the traffic from Hwy.101. I would love to particiapte in the wine social they have every evening, but can only drink Sulfite free or organic wines as allergic to sulfa. This has been our 3rd stay there, my husband loves to sit on the balcony, or inside with the fireplace on and watch the ocean, one year we saw whales nearby, but had no binoculars, now we bring those as well, just in case.

Room Tip: All rooms have an Ocean view. I can only assume that once it gets hot out the rooms would be warm a...

Travelling south down the coast we needed somewhere to lay our heads for the night. We had no idea of the area or the hotel/motel availability but saw the Shearwater and thought; that'll do. We ended up with a suite for $140 which we thought was very acceptable. The suite has a separate lounge with full fridge freezer, oven etc and a nice big king size bed. Ok, so we were on the second floor and didn't have the full ocean view but hey, the beach is out the door and across the car park. Opposite the hotel is Kyllo's seafood grill restaurant that has a pretty good menu and is ( at least in our eyes) reasonably priced.
The Shearwater also provides a free continental breakfast to your door. They have a free wine tasting hour to boot down in the lobby. The staff at check in were great so all in all I can't really find fault with The Shearwater. Possibly the only down side is the extremely slow wifi.

Found with the help of trip advisor, we were even more impressed when we arrived, We did not have reservations and were very happy to find that there were still rooms available. There are only 30 rooms, all with an ocean view. The sound of the ocean and a warm fireplace made the stay even more enjoyable. To top it off, the complimentary continental breakfast is delivered to your room for an even more intement experience.

Definitely worth the unexpected reasonably nightly rate! ($116/nt in June).

We chose to stay here after reading other reviews of this and other hotels on the Oregon coast. We thought it was definitely the nicest looking hotel in the area once we got there. The others in the area are motels for the most part, and appear very 'weathered' from the salty air and years of use. We stayed in a 'parlor suite' on the 4th floor. We could easily see over the restaurant next door, but could see how you wouldn't have a clear view of the ocean and beach on any lower floors. The sliding glass door leading onto a private balcony with two chairs and a small table was very nice, and we enjoyed sitting out here and relaxing while watching seals leaping out of the water and families running and playing on the beach. The bathroom had incredibly soft towels and bathrobes that were by far the heaviest, best quality we have ever felt for complimentary robes. The suite has a full kitchen with full size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, oven, etc. There are even baking dishes and pots and pans if you so choose to cook! There were only two things we were a bit disappointed by- one is that we felt the bed was really liked in other reviews so we had high hopes; however, it is actually quite a firm mattress, and we prefer a somewhat softer one. So I suppose it depends on how you like the mattress to be. The other thing, and this was the biggest issue for us, is that there is a lot of road noise at night. This is certainly not the hotel's fault, and we do feel it is a very nice place. But it was quite warm in the room and no air conditioning so we had to have the windows open. This meant no sleep for us, as the bedroom faces hwy 101, with cars and sirens speeding by the window all night until about 2 am. So while we loved our stay at the beach, for this reason we unfortunately won't stay again.
