When we first arrived Surftides reminded me of an older Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge, and I wondered what it was all about. We were there 4 nights, and I definitely will return. There have been a lot of updates, and the front desk reception area is one of them. It is a very pleasant welcoming area with a small gift shop, snack shop, and wine tasting held on weekends. The wines were excellent as well as the cheeses, fresh fruits, and chocolates. The rooms were spacious with sliding patio doors to your private deck. As mentioned in some previous reviews people were not comfortable leaving patio door open. We did, and enjoyed the sound of the ocean during the night. The beds were very comfortable with a lightweight down sheet which was perfect. We also enjoyed the Keurig coffee in the morning. There are 4 outdoor gas fire pits and ample seating, with s 'more ingredients available at front desk. There are treasure hunts daily for the children where they find hidden mermaids, and receive a prize. All the children seemed to really enjoy that. We did not swim or use the sauna or hot tub. There is direct access to the beach, and it is a great beach for walking or just chilling.
The Mist restaurant is next to the hotel, and we only had breakfast there, but the food was excellent. The decor was very pleasant, and wait staff very attentive.
One more point to mention: everyone from the housekeeping staff to the front desk staff could not have been more accomodating and helpful. It is a very pleasant atmosphere, making you want to return, even though it could use a little update.

Room Tip: Probably ask for 2nd floor room. Ours was on 1st floor and you could hear the people in the room ab...

We stayed in an oceanfront room and the view was outstanding for the price. The room and decor was extremely outdated but clean. Shower was hard to operate. Sliding glass door to balcony was difficult to open and close. On-site restaurant was good.

We stayed here for 2 nights and were very disappointed and disgusted. Wrinkled purple carpet, stained bedding, bird poop all over balconey and what looked to be vomit out there also. No signs anywhere telling people not to feed the birds and they were doing so on all the floors. The birds were very agressive while sitting on the balconies. Housekeeping only pulled the bedding up, didn't replace any toiletries and it looked like they didn't vacuum either. Everything in the room was old and very dated. This was one of the higher priced hotels in Lincoln City and we expected it to be so much nicer, definitely will not stay here again.

We stayed here for 5 nights last summer, then returned for 5 nights last week. Yes, we like it that much. We wanted an ocean view with easy access to the beach (check) and dog friendly (yup, they allowed our lab with special permission). No one else has all that this hotel offers. Surftides is like grandma's beach cottage: a little worn (in a nice, 60's way) but welcoming, friendly, and looking to provide every comfort. It is not a high-brow hotel, so move along if that's what you need. This is a large property with room to roam, and a lot of wonderful, kitschy little touches at every turn. Treasure hunts, fire pits, marshmallow roasts, wine tasting, Keurig coffee, a great restaurant with room service just to name a few. Honestly, I would just move right in if they would let me :-)

We paid for a "Premium King Room", and the amount we paid was not commensurate with the quality of the hotel. We weren't expecting the Ritz, but did NOT expect how dated the hotel and room was. There was no a/c and while the temperature outside was cool, the room was stiflingly hot. When we opened the sliding door, there was smoke pouring in from below where a fire pit on the beach was lit. When we called the desk about the problem, they told us to open the sliding door and they would bring us a fan. They did bring the fan, but it was dirty and there was no way we were going to turn it on in the room. While it is a beachfront hotel, I would advise others to find a more suitable place to stay. It was too late for us to change hotels.

This is the second time in less than a year that I have chosen Surftides. You will really enjoy the stay and view here. The staff is prompt and helpful. I like the view a lot. This place is really good sized, yet you don't see a lot of people running around as the property itself is big. I did not try the restaurant or pool, but the rooms are very clean. In the pictures I viewed, the property looked aging and when we arrived the first time, i got that "uh oh feeling as it did appear dated. I was completely wrong and realized it when I stepped inside. There are rooms that have been updated, but we did not get one of those on our visits and we were happy with the ones we had. Suffice it to say, this place has been around a long time for good reason. They take pride in the property and are responsive to your needs.

Clean rooms- front desk not that friendly but adequate. Awesome rooms with private balconies on the beach - nice pool and laundry. Lots of coffee in room, a fridge and some kitchen utensils. Also they sell firewood for a beach bonfire!
