My daughter and I chose to be here for the Mother's Day weekend--I had been before, and enjoyed the close proximity to all the stores and a beach view right out the window--it was clean, neat and quiet, and very affordable--the little kitchenette would have been fun to use, we just chose to enjoy the town's offerings, and of course, shop at the Little Apple market.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for an ocean view--upstairs is best

I would have stayed longer had a room been available. I enjoyed the studio suite at the corner of Laneda Avenue and Ocean Drive. It has an unobstructed full view of the beach with a private patio across the street from the Pacific and direct beach access. Although my stay was for only two nights, it was pleasantly memorable. The kitchen, with oven/stove is a big plus. The two exterior walls offer views of the beach. This room even has a fireplace. I can easily and heartily recommend the Sunset Surf studio suite. A convenient grocery store is nearby in this rather charming small beach town. Unlike other Oregon beach hotels we have stayed at, this one is not on a cliff, but at beach level in a lovely setting. The cost of the suite was truly reasonable. If privacy is of utmost importance to you, you might prefer a different room in this newer of the two buildings. The older one where the office is located is a block away, but still on the beach.

Because I prefer not to drive, this location was available to me because of the round-trip small bus service out of Portland for $20 on the Tillamook County bus service called the Wave. It was a trip of about three and a half hours through the beautiful Oregon farm/wooded countryside.

Room Tip: The office is in an older building a block away, which has somewhat less appealing rooms to offer un...

Friendly staff, and a clean & comfy room made for a great bargain. And the location can't be beat!
The only thing we could have used was a fan since it was a rare 85 degree day in May! Next time we would like to be in the newer building on the corner of Laneda with the private balconies.

Room Tip: Get the ocean view room with your own private balcony

Well, we've stayed here many times in the Budd building and really enjoy it. Unsurpassed view of the ocean and beach, a kitchen for cooking, a gas fireplace for cool nights. Plus my dog can come too!
The place is worn, the furniture typical of budget motel, and I always have to go to the office to get some missing from the kitchen (a pot! last time), but the place is clean. The staff is hit or miss. But since are here for the view and the beach, it works for me.

The Sunset Surf Motel is the current destination for the annual "Rain Ride," which is held by the Washington State BMW Riders on the last weekend in April. I like Room 35, but they're all nice and comfortable. The rooms are clean, and the staff is nice. The TV gets all the "essential" channels, plus they have DVDs in the lobby. The beach is just over the road, a short walk away. It's a short walk to several restaurants and a nice little grocery store. I used to bring my dog Zeke in his kennel crate on the back of my bike, and he'd get to run on the beach. Unfortunately old Zeke is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.

I recommend the Sunset Surf Motel!

I agree with Julie and Gina, in that it is clean and comfortable. I stayed in #19 in the main bldg. which is spacious and equipped with a good kitchen. You gotta like being able to walk out the front door and be on the beach in a few steps. A short walk brings you to shopping and good eating establishments. For a motorcycle traveler the Sunset Surf is a great choice as most rooms are close to parking and you can load and unload with ease.

Just had a wonderful two day at the Sunset Surf Motel, April 19 & 20th, and even with a light mist part of the time on Friday Saturday and our time there Sunday was just super.
We stayed in the Budd building and was planning to do same till I talked to the desk and found the other two building had a complete update earlier this year. New furniture and counters and a lot of little things which will yours and mine stay there feel a little better next time. I love the chance to sit outside drinking a glass of wine and watch the waves come in and the sun go down at night. This one of great advantages of staying in the Budd building and a down to staying in the two other building.
Right now we're trying to decide which month to go back this fall, maybe we'll see you there.

Room Tip: second floor of any room for a better view.
