“Exactly What A B&B Should Be”
Reviewed 14 August 2009

We were extremely pleased with this B&B. Our hosts were attentive and gracious; the room was clean and well-appointed; the town is perfect for walking to a nice dinner nearby. The breakfast was delicious - very creative. The owner gave us information on our upcoming destinations miles away - she even had brochures handy. To sum up - we were pampered, rested well, ate well and will definitely go back!

As B&B Innkeepers ourselves, Lynn and I are very select about our travel accommodations. We were delighted to have found and stayed with Liz and Jacques. We stayed for three nights late march 2009 and could have stayed longer had we the time. Their B&B is located in the middle of the Willamette Valley, noted for its Pinot Noir wines. We had the pleasure to visit a few wineries during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed their wines, as I am an amateur Pinot Noir officianado.

Liz and Jacques are extremely friendly and outgoing and made our stay very pleasant. I particularly enjoyed kibitzing with Jacques about his breakfasts (which are excellent - it was a real treat to have someone making me breakfast for a change) since I too am our B&B 'chef'. Jacques has a great since of humor and made breakfasts such an enjoyable experience every morning. Liz does a beautiful job maintaining the rooms and making sure we had everything we needed. Liz graciously up-graded us to the "Tuscan" room and we thoroughly enjoyed the sitting area, the very comfortable bed and linens, and the immaculate bathroom. We had everything we could possibly need and felt very much at home. We would recommend A' Tuscan Estate B&B to anyone who is looking forwarded to being pampered both in their room and at breakfasts.

I haven't had much luck with B and Bs, to be honest. My most recent experience was at a horrid place in Calistoga ... but I wanted to give B and Bs one more chance, instead of resorting to a Best Western. I did some research and found A'Tuscan B and B, and read great reviews ... and sure enough, it was wonderful. The hostess, Liz, was so warm and accomodating (she allowed an early check-in for me as I'm five months pregnant and would need a nap before that night's festivities). The house is beautiful - not just clean, but elegant and welcoming. It was the little details that stood out: Liz had water and tea awaiting us. The bathroom had all kinds of fun little girly skincare and bath products. The bed was sooooo comfortable for my aching back. And my husband, who is as burned as I have been, fell in love with the place as well. The gourmet breakfast with the poached pears, baked delicacies and quiche sealed the deal. We'd go back in a second. And McMinnville? Wonderful. Great downtown with fun shopping and eateries. I highly recommend McMinnville and A'Tuscan B and B for a romantic weekend getaway. Maybe I can squeeze one more stay before I say goodbye to romantic couples-only getaways."

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at A Tuscan Estate in mid-July. The property is located on a residential street about a 5 minute walk to the restaurants and shops in historic downtown McMinnville. The house is an attractive colonial with nicely landscaped yards. Inside the house is tastefully decorated with some interesting objects collected over the years by the owners, Jacques and Liz. Our room, the Sienna Room, was small but very comfortable and nicely furnished.
Both Jacques and Liz made us feel very welcome and it quickly became apparent that Jacques was an accomplished Chef (and author) who had worked all over the world. The breakfasts reflected this - they were extremely fresh and enjoyable. Jacques prides himself on making something new for a guest each day they stay there. On our first morning we had a selection of local fruits and a very light and tasty quiche, and on the 2nd day we enjoyed baked mango followed by Jacque's "Tomato Volcano" (a poached egg and spinache inside a tomato on top of a muffin).
Beyond providing breakfast our hosts also supplied us with some good tips on wineries to visit and restaurants to eat at. Based on their advice we had an enjoyable time at Winter's Hill Winery (the best Pinot Noir we tasted on this trip) and Domaine Drouhin (nice views). We also enjoyed dinner at La Rambla (a very comfortable tapas style restaurant) and Bistro Maison (obviously french with a nice garden setting).
A couple of things to note: 1. There is a very nice dog (Pololo) and cat (BooBoo) in the house - we enjoyed having them there, but if you have pet allergies you might want to be aware of this. 2. Unlike many B&Bs there are individual breakfast tables so if you don't feel quite up to morning conversation with your fellow guests that's ok. 3. Breakfast is served in 2 seatings - either 8:30 or 10. Each seating can accommodate up to 3 couples.
Overall this is a very good example of what a B&B should be like. If you are someone who has wondered what the B&B experience is like and is thinking of taking the plunge you couldn't do better than spending a night or two at A Tuscan Estate.

We just stayed here this past week, and loved our experience. Liz and Jacques are the most gracious hosts, and Jacque's breakfasts are *fantastique*! We had a buckwheat crepe-based quiche with ostrich egg and ham, an amazing fruit salad with figs, berries, mangoes, pineapples, and kiwis, and freshly baked croissants.

The B&B is very close to downtown McMinnville (5 blocks), and nicely appointed with Tuscan accents. We stayed in the "Napoli" room which had a newly renovated bathroom with dual pedestal sinks. The B&B also has a really friendly chihuahua who hangs out with guests if you want. :) This is a great place to stay if you need a launching pad for exploring Willamette Valley wineries.

My husband and I stayed at A'Tuscan B& as part of a week long anniversary trip to Oregon. We stayed three nights in the Napoli room and had a magical time. The property itself is gorgeous with no detail left undone. Jacques and Liz are extraordinary innskeepers and we could tell not only are they good at what they do, they LOVE what they do. Jacques' culinary skills were unmatched by any other B&B we've stayed - ultra gourmet breakfasts and coffee - and as a certified sommalier, we also gave us tremdendous recommendations on certain wineries to visit in the area. Overall, a wonderful experience and if we ever do decide to visit McMinnville again, this will be the only choice of accomodations. Fabulous!

This was our first visit to Oregon wine country, and we couldn't have been more pleased, especially because we were fortunate enough to stay at A Tuscan Estate.

We stayed in the Napoli Room, which was a nice size and had a large two-vanity bathroom. The property has been lovingly restored and is centrally located to the historic downtown area (an easy walk). Owners Liz and Jacques Rolland were very hospitable and always willing to help with a restaurant reservation, directions, etc.

The REAL STAR of A Tuscan Estate is the complimentary breakfast cooked by Jacques, who is an unbelievable culinary talent with 40+ years of experience in the kitchen. Every morning we would wake excited to learn the menu for the day. This is not just eggs and bacon folks...this is the real deal! Baked mangos, homemade flan and croissants, ostrich egg quiche, the list goes on and on.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this establishment and would definitely visit again and recommend to family and friends! Bon appetit!
