Have stayed at the Shilo Inns a number of times over the years and for the most part they have been OK. This weekend we went to the Oregon coast and stayed at thier property in Newport. They have just become one of the many so-so hotels. Room was dirty, peanuts still on the floor, very warm with no A/C so they threw in a fan.

The big disapponitment was the restaurant. The food was over priced and VERY bad. $32 for a rib eye steak, and 9 dollars for kids Mac and Cheese. We were unable or unwilling to eat three of the four meals. The superivor came over and told to come back in the morning and she would " take care of us." In the morning the main restaurant was closed and breakfast was being served it what appeared to be an old snack bar. Reminded me of the old mess halls in the Army. So but to many nice places to waste any more money here.

Dear woody495:

First, I must apologize for the experience that you had at our hotel during your recent stay. It is our goal to provide affordable excellence from the moment you check in to the moment you check out..

Although our housekeeping staff is fully trained and eager to assure our guest’s satisfaction, we obviously missed the peanuts in your friend's guest room. I apologize that this oversight affected your stay.

The natural air conditionings provided by the Pacific Ocean breezes usually make air conditioning units unnecessary. Temperatures rarely reach an uncomfortable degree, so the hotel was constructed without A/C units.

I understand your frustrations with regards to your experience in the restaurant and café, again, I apologize. We’re currently redoing our menu in the restaurant and café and hope you will give us another opportunity to demonstrate our improvements.

Hopefully, with our efforts to accommodate you and your associates, you will consider allowing us to be your host again here in Newport on the Oregon coast .

Sincerely,

Karen

I booked a two queen deluxe suit for my fiance and two year old son for one night. The reviews and pictures made it look fantastic..however we got there for them to say we booked a standard. We went to our room to find a dirty q tip, dirty counters and worst of all stained comforter. The table lamp was old with rust and heater was broke. When I called to the desk they said the stains were from 'water' and they would call back about upgrading rooms. An hour later we went to the desk and said forget it were going elsewhere. Not once did one employee or manager apologize. My son was tired and hungry and we had to find another hotel. Called the hallmark.right down the road. Great rooms, great service, very clean and the pool was awesome. We will be staying there from now on. I highly recommend it.

Large, clean and recently-updated room with spectacular ocean view. Appreciated the comfy beds. Building D had just one elevator that always had a wait. Restaurant and cafe were convenient, but I do not recommend the eggs benedict. Excellent location on the Oregon coast.

Nice updated room with fridge, microwave, table and comfy beds. Nice view, no decks (but in November who cares!). Rooms seemed sufficiently sound proof. Would have liked a hot tub or sauna and/or fitness center. Free wi-fi worked fine. Lounged with 5 year old in 3 foot pool, which was a great place for kids and warm enough for leisure. It could have been a bit cleaner (sandy bottom). Kids enjoyed the free hot chocolate, fruit and cookies in the lobby. We really appreciated the extended checkout time offered on Sunday, as we were able to keep the room until 4 at no extra charge.

My family enjoyed our stay at the Shilo Inn very much. The room was very spacious with a great view of the ocean. My 5 year old son enjoyed the 2 indoor pools and wants to go back to 'people's house' (Shilo) again already. We had trouble with the fridge in our first room, but as soon as we informed the hotel staff, they made arrangements for another room with a working one. The water is always hot in the shower, even with 3 of us showering in a row. We will definitely continue to make return trips to the Shilo Inn at Newport.
