I have stayed at many Hotels over the years and have never left a review of my experience. My experience was so bad at the Shilo Inn in Newport I was compelled to leave my review.
I stayed at this Hotel almost 2 years ago and had a bad experience then. This time some friends wanted to stay here so we gave it a second chance. Bad idea. I called and made my reservations. They try to raise the prices on you when you make the reservations. They prices on the Shilo Inn Website are not the same prices they have at the counter. So when you check in make sure they didn't raise the price on you. My room went from $140 to $130 and then to $104 like it says on their website.
The older man working behind the counter is not helpful. Did not make an effort to find out what time our room would be cleaned so we could check in when asked. The younger male behind the counter, I believe his name started with R or J, was helpful. He saw that the older male did not help me, when I asked and found out the information I was requesting. That was the only good thing that happened during our stay.
First, the room was still dirty! There were peanuts on the floor. The windows were very small so ventilation was not good. First, the room was still dirty! There were peanuts on the floor. The windows were very small so ventilation was not good. There is only 1 elevator for the building we were in. Luggage carts were difficult to find when parking in the under park.
The restaurant, oh the restaurant. Horrible. The worst meal we, our party of 6, have ever had in a restaurant. Our drinks took 30 minutes to arrive after ordering them. The appetizers arrived another 35 minutes later. The worst was yet to come. Two in our party received their dinner first. After some time had passed and they were almost finished with their meal, the other 4 in the party then received their diners.
My $20 steak was a shoe. My wife's $20 chicken and shrimp was a rock and hardened sponge shaped shrimp. First time in her life she had to put ketchup on a chicken breast. Our friends fish and chips smelled of rotten smelly halibut that sat in the garbage for a week. His toppings for his baked potato had melted before it arrived to the table. One order was completely lost.
The restaurant was not even busy and things took forever to arrive. We were not the only ones with issues. One couple got up and left after not getting service. The couple next to us received the wrong dinners.
The assistant manager on duty said that if we came to breakfast in the morning she would, "hook us up". One look at the breakfast and we checked out. We went to the Shilo Inn for relaxation. All our party was stressed out by the end of our stay. There are not enough coupons in the world to stay here again. This place owes a lot of people their money back because they are not up to the Shilo Inn standards. Very disappointing and will never stay here again.More
