We rented this home for our wedding paying $4,200 for a Friday and Saturday night--June 23-25. We wanted our wedding to be on the beach and were told when discussing with the Vacasa agent that indeed this estate was "on the water". We had our family and a few friends for a total of 18 people, the maximum listed for the rental property. To our great disappointment, the house is perched high on a cliff with absolutely NO BEACH ACCESS. When called Vacasa for an explanation, was told we are sorry you were told it was on the water, as it kinda depends on how you look at the picture. We were then told there was a trail to the beach at the end of the road, which some of our guest tried, got lost and reported not suitable for us who are in our sixties.
The views would have been great if one could see through the filthy windows. We decided to have our ceremony outside on the property overlooking the ocean, but our guests spent 20 minutes weeding the area for the ceremony.
There were only four very very rust chairs as the deck furniture. Parking was a hassle as we learned via email we had to register all nine cars or they would be towed, even though parked on the property. Instructions indicated one of the cars was to be parked in the garage. When we opened the inside garage door and pressed the door opener (it was dark) the entire mechanism fell from the ceiling. Finding the light, we then saw a sign on the inside of the garage door that said "do not open, broken". There were three kitchens, however, we used the one on the main level, which only had three small frying pans making bacon and eggs for 18 each morning very tedious. They tout a dishwasher, but provide only two soap pods. There is no handle on the inside of the master shower door. Can't close the door for a shower unless one gets assistance from the outside of the door. Poor design on the main level where there are five bedrooms as four of our guests had to share our master bathroom. Finally, we were originally told an early check in is likely. All guest arrived in Newport at noon. We got an email at 8:30 in the morning saying cleaning was taking longer than normal and we could not check in until 4. Then we get a voicemail at noon saying because Vacasa had a lot of rentals check out Friday morning and our was their largest property, the cleaners would need to be there past 4. When we called to complain, they then sent extra cleaners. The description of the place should disclose the bathroom situation and the lack of beach access. We feel like we should have paid $1,500 not $4,200.
We have stayed many places and always gave rave reviews, but this rental house was disgusting (except the view- was marvelous). The management company, Vacasa, allows pets and there were animal urine stains all over the carpets, and there was some form of biomass in the hot tub- to the point that we were unable to use it. We had read some pretty bad reviews of the place on VRBO and the response from Vacasa to the reviewers seemed as though they would take care of the problem. I emailed ahead and let them know that cleanliness was of utmost importance to me and that as long as the place was clean I would give great reviews, thinking that this would encourage them to make sure that it was clean upon our arrival. The carpets were sickening.
Since receiving our review, the management company has sent me a note stating that they will have the hot tub cleaned and the carpets professionally clean, but that doesn't help me. They offered no discounts or refunds. I would look somewhere else if cleanliness matters.
