We stayed in one of the king suites and it worked out nicely for the family. The king bed was separated from the kitchen and couch by a door, which was helpful. The A/C for the room didn't seem to work, but we just opened the windows instead. There were cookies waiting for us when we got back from dinner. The king bed itself was comfortable, but the fold-out bed was difficult for an adult to sleep on. I'd recommend that potential customers only count on kids using the fold-out; possibly being pleasantly surprised if an adult finds it comfortable. The staff was very friendly and basically just normal people. They honored a 20% off coupon that I found in one of the Newport tourism magazines which made the room really inexpensive. The hotel itself is kind of dated and funky, but that didn't surprise as probably 80-90% of accommodations along the Oregon coast are that way.

We spontaneously decided to take a trip to the coast and this La Quinta was the one which according to the Tripadvisor reviews offered the best value for money.

The pros:
The staff is very friendly and helpful. However, during our 2-night stay, always the same reception ladies were working and you could see that they were tired. They were still very nice and friendly but you could tell that it has been a very long weekend - especially during peak season. But this is something the management has to change.
The Hotel is directly located at Highway 101 and within walking distance to the Aquarium and the South Beach Fish Market

The Cons:
When we arrived we were given a room on the third floor and one of the receptionist called it a "special room": It had an old, beaten up, dusty sink in the corner which made the whole stay not exactly cozy. There was an awful peppermint smell in our room - they use a certain cleaning spray with peppermint. In general, the furniture and interior is worn and I have to agree with other reviews that it badly needs updating. The desk in our room almost fell apart (legs and drawers loose), the desk chair was wobbly and stained. Our armchair was also stained so we didn't want to sit in it. So were the bed skirt and shower curtain. After we addressed this to the front desk, both where replaced.
The AC smelt awfully when set on "heat" and there was trash under the bed.
The Breakfast is room too small for a Hotel that size, it gets too crowed during breakfast times.

After we addressed some of these issues at the front desk, the lady offered us a 10% discount, however she could not apply it to our final bill as we initially booked the hotel via booking.com but she promised us to let her manager know so he could get back to us. So far, we are still waiting for a reply from the hotel.

I understand that things get busy during peak season but we both just like everyone else have to work for our money and spending $150 per night for a room which is dirty and in this condition is not acceptable and we will not stay there again.

First stay with this hotel and enjoyed our 3 nights. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet. The location was also close to most of the attractions we were interested in. If we make it down to Newport again we will be staying here.

We were die hard LQ customers for YEARS, but the last couple years the quality seems to be suffering. We've started staying at Comfort Suites whenever possible instead. Our recent stay at the Newport La Quinta was just okay. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but the rooms are dated and in dire need of upgrading. The breakfast room is far too small and hot for a hotel this size, and every single morning we had to juggle our plates and bring breakfast back to our room because there wasn't a single place to sit and eat down there. Not to mention how hot and stuffy the breakfast room was. For the high coastal pricetag, I expect better.

We arrived after the stated check in time, after a long drive, and were told it would be at least another hour before our room would be ready so we were asked to "go do something and come back". Really? Not something we wanted to do with a car full of luggage and my laptop, so we hung around the lobby until our room was ready, when all we wanted to do was shower and rest.

I was sad to see that Newport, in general, has gone downhill. The streets/shops/etc just seemed more run down and dirty compared to all our previous visits. Someone mentioned that they were one of many towns affected by the loss of federal timber funds, which is a bummer, but to keep the tourism industry going, they may want to find a way to invest in cleaning the town up again. We decided that Newport is no longer on our desirable travel destination list for summer getaways.

Room tip: Honestly, the only "perk" to the rooms here is picking a nicer suite with the hot tub and fireplace to make it more fun.
