“An aura of Sacred Spirit”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

The aura of sacred spirit embraces you when you enter this beautiful sanctuary dedicated with great love to the memory of the intrepid fishermen who have been lost at sea. You will be touched by the very personal messages and tributes and struck by the fact that new names are added almost every year.

“Memorial built with love and dignity”
Reviewed 8 June 2013

My wife and I read every epistle in the sanctuary and truly felt the pain of those left behind when a loved one was lost at sea. The risk/reward of the seaman or woman is not something most of us have experienced. those making a living from the sea sometimes have no options as far as risk is concerned. The small octagon building holding seating for gusts and room for a tasteful memorial display seems to fit the life of those lost. Not fancy...just enough. Now the sanctuary includes a beautiful park with picnic tables and places for children to run around. the view of the sea is just a few steps away as a testimony that life must go on.

“Great place for lunch too”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

We stopped here for a picnic lunch and were pleasantly surprised to see the memorial. It was a good opportunity to teach our children about the dangers of the ocean and how re remember our loved ones.
Picnic area was great too. nice area to stop with a group if you've packed a lunch. some small trails and plenty of picnic tables with benches.

“Don't miss this area!”
Reviewed 23 October 2012 via mobile

The Memorial is sobering as people don't realize how dangerous fishing in the Pacific can be. See also the memorial in Depoe Bay. But this is also a great picnic park and viewing area with perhaps the best view of the bridge and a really great interpretive area. Truly one of my favorite spots in Newport if not the entire Oregon coast! If the light house is open, usually late mornings to early afternoon, it's a must see! Wonderful volunteers, amazing history and absolutely spectacular views. Access this area right at the south side of the bridge. Well marked.
