The whaler is a nice motel on the beach, with clean rooms and a terrible front desk lady named Karen. She is rude, unaccommodating and hostile. We called ahead and got approved for a noon check-in. When we arrived at 12:20 Karen argued and told us our room wasn't ready. She became irritated when we asked for another room - one that was ready as promised. Finally she caved and gave us a room. Why was this even brought to our attention. She had an available room, why argue with the guests? Why make them uncomfortable? Why not just change the room # in your little computer and be a descent human being??? Do yourself a favor Karen, go into a line of work when you don't have to interact with people. Your just not suited it.

Room Tip: try the 3rd floor - the view rocks and there's an elevator.

We had upper floor rooms, which looked out to the ocean and the beach. The beach was just across the road.
The King bed was very comfortable, and the place was very clean. It was quiet except for the sound of the ocean waves. There was coffee making facility in the room.
It was really good value as breakfast was included in the price. It was a buffet breakfast with pastries, toast, tea/coffee and fruits at the reception area. The guests just helped themselves.
We did not use the pool, which would be great for children when the weather was too cold to swim at the beach.

We would definitely stay there again !

Room Tip: Rooms towards the end of the building on the top floor

Picked this hotel for our family weekend stay based on pool and continental breakfast. My kids loved the pool. The room was very clean, beautiful view of ocean, quick trail down to the beach, and great location next to a fun city park for my kids and short walk to great restaurants. At high tide, the beach is pretty limited but still nice.

We stayed here last June when we flew in for a wedding. After reading the reviews I booked our room. We were on the second level ocean side. What a lovely place! Even if it rained the whole time. Nice and clean, very quiet and we enjoyed the pool and spa which we had all to ourselves. Wish it had a little better breakfast, but even that was fine. If you want to eat the best seafood in Newport, try the Newport Cafe. FANTASTIC!!!!
I would recommend this hotel and stay here again, easy walk to the beach, really enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: Any room on the ocean side has great views and was quiet! We had our transom window open so we could hear the ocean all night.

Great little motel! Very clean, and it was dog friendly(huge plus). Nice pool and spa. Good view of the ocean and it was very easy to access the beach from the motel. I loved the electric fireplace. Will definitely stay here again!
