“A Nice Hotel with Great Ocean Views”
Reviewed 8 October 2013

We stayed at the Whaler for one night as part of our trip north up the coast of OR. We found the rooms comfortable and clean, and opted for a balcony room overlooking the ocean. We cracked open a bottle of wine and watched one of the prettiest sunsets of our trip on the balcony. The bonus was the pool and the hot tub (especially the hot tub) after riding in the car all day. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Breakfast was Spartan but nice. A great find!

My husband and I stay at the Whaler every time we visit Newport for the weekend, which is probably every other year. We have a chocolate lab who loves the cost and this is one of the more dog friendly hotels, so that is why we choose it. It might not be the most luxurious motel in Newport, but it is reasonably priced, clean, and comfortable. The staff here is amazing: Super friendly and helpful. There is a little workout room, pool, and hot tub that we always take advantage of. We love the continental breakfast. They have trays so you can take it up to your room. Which I love, because my husband can never get up early enough for the breakfast, so I like bringing something up for him to have when he wakes up. The rest of the day they have free popcorn! Also, each room has a small balcony overlooking the ocean, and there is a little trail down to Nye beach from the hotel. Very nice.
It was very quiet and relaxing.

Great location and view, just across the road to the beach and a short walk to Nye beach for dining and shops. Very quiet even with the road next to the balcony on which we sat to enjoy our standard breakfast fare and watch the ocean. We arrived early and the staff were very friendly and we got right into our room. We were on the 2nd floor and there is an elevator - which was nice as it would have been a bit painful to carry our bikes up the stairs. We also enjoyed the hot tub and the distance to downtown is quite walkable.
Overall an excellent time and we could easily have stayed more than the one night.

This is a very nice hotel in a really pretty town. It's right next to another hotel that charges at least 50% more. The rooms are clean and furnished nicely and the beds are very comfortable. We were on a lower floor so really didn't have a good view of the ocean since there are dunes in that area. There was a nice area outside of the sliding doors where you are able to sit with your coffee or cocktail. The breakfast was ample and a good quality. The staff is very friendly and super helpful. I would stay here again when in Newport.

Room Tip: If you would like a view, choose an upper level room. There are elevators

We had a wonderful time at the Whaler. Most comfortable beds we have ever slept in while away from home. Great View of the ocean and within a short walk we were on the beach. We played in the Hot Tub and Swimming pool, had lots of fun. We will be staying there again the next time we visit Newport. :)

Check in was quick and easy. They have popcorn, coffee and tea available in the lobby for a nice little treat. A simple but convenient continental breakfast was available until 10am. Muffins, cereal, bagels, coffe and tea. The view was spectacular! We slept with the sliding glass door open so we could listen to the ocean all night. The beds were pretty comfortable as well.

This Motel does overlook the beach. Its on a hill and you have to cross a street to actually get to the area that goes down to the beach. Still it is very close and the even the view from our 1st floor rooms was great.

The rooms were clean and updated. Didn't use the wifi. The beds were comfortable and there was a nice ocean breeze blowing. Staff was friendly. The beach was beautiful (but it is a bit of down hill hike down to it--fine if you have no problem walking, but might be a bit much if you do.)

Close to a couple of restaurants. Lady at the front desk recommended the Chowder house which was ok.

They had the usual muffins, pastries and cereal for breakfast (there really isn't room in lobby to eat, but they have trays you can take back to your room.)

We did like the place and would stay there again.

Room Tip: View might be a little better on the second floor.
