Great place to stay, they are very accommodating for seniors and children. Love the nearby beach access and pool. Has been clean and tidy all three times I have stayed here. The front desk folks are very nice. The continental breakfast has coffee, juice, cereal, oatmeal, toast, beagles and fruit.

Room Tip: Let them know if you have a senior or kids with you and they may have a larger room for you.

We were looking for a reasonably priced place to stay for a short visit to the coast. The Whaler provided clean, comfortable accommodations right across the street from the beach and the path that led down to the beach. Our room faced the beach, had a little patio outside the sliding glass doors, and gave us great views. There was an indoor pool. Staff were friendly and gave good information about the area. Hot beverages were always available in the office and there was a continental breakfast served in the morning. The Whaler was perfect as a home base for our 3-day, 2-night visit.

This was our second night on our trip up the Oregon Coast. This was a great hotel! The check-in lady was real friendly and helpful. We had reserved a 1st floor room and were not disappointed with the view! The room itself was very nicely appointed and very modern. Very close to Nye Beach

This is a nice hotel with a great setting. Although there is a frontage road in front, it does not take away from the whole experience. You can walk to the beach within minutes and enjoy a wonderful beach stroll. We enjoyed the convenience of walking downtown for some delicious clam chowder (or fancy sit down if that is what you want). The added bonus was the lovely sunsets and the little window one can keep open all night to hear the ocean! The hotel could use some updating, but it is clean and well maintained. Friendly, helpful staff, too! Loved staying there and we plan to go back next year and stay even longer.

Room Tip: Third floor has the best views.

What a find! The whaler had everything we needed. Although it is technically not on the beach, it still has a great view with a balcony! Room was clean and pleasant. The morning breakfast was more than adequate. The best bonus is that it was close enough to the local retail/dining area so we were able to walk and drive! I would definitely stay at the whaler again.

The staff is great: very friendly and helpful. All rooms have balconies with good views that face the ocean. There is a small pile of rocks on the nearby beach which creates a wonderful tide pool to view the treasures of the ocean. The beach here is decently flat for some distance if one wants to have a good walk/jog.
Although the price is a bit higher than similar hotels, we return to this hotel whenever we come to Newport. We have never had an issue with cleanliness and in the off-season it is quiet and peaceful. Many nice restaurants are within walking distance as is the historic Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, and it is a short drive to the old bayfront district, Aquarium and Hatfield Science Center.
I would give this facility a 5 star rating if the continental breakfast had a bit more offering besides just bread products. We have stayed in comparable places along the coast for as much as $30 less per night which had a greater variety of menu items.
All-in-all, The Whaler is an excellent choice if you want great views, easy beach access, nearby dining and sight-seeing.

Room Tip: The second and third floors are best for ocean viewing. If you don't mind being a bit farther fr...

We stayed at the Whaler for one night as part of our trip north up the coast of OR. We found the rooms comfortable and clean, and opted for a balcony room overlooking the ocean. We cracked open a bottle of wine and watched one of the prettiest sunsets of our trip on the balcony. The bonus was the pool and the hot tub (especially the hot tub) after riding in the car all day. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Breakfast was Spartan but nice. A great find!
