A few times we arrived at the Newport Bayfront and the Annex was closed. Bummer!
A couple times we went to the Original Mo's across the street. The wait to seat was terrible both times. The service super slow too. So now if the Mo'c Annex is closed we skip eating in Newport.
The Annex has large windows showing the bay, the fishing boats unloading and passing by, seals and birds and everything else we enjoy at the Coast. The Original Mo's has peopels backs and crowds in the aisles and huge lines at the tiny restroom. The Annex is entertaining as soon as we sit down to enjoying the incredible view. We nearly always order the large Family Bowl which is $14.95. All the free crackers we can eat and two bowls or more for four. Not bad at all. Their Chowder is always hot and fresh. Their kitchen is able to keep up. They serve famous chowder of New England style. Their special ingrediant is 'Bacon'. That chowder has an extra zing. For us, the Coast is not a good visit without our stop at Mo's Annex. Been that way for decades (since about 1965). Hint however, chowder is no where as good on a warm day or when already full. Venture to the Beach just on the other side of the big beautiful bridge and feel the cool wind in your hair. After an hor or so you are ready to fully enjoy hot chowder.
