We stayed last summer (late review, I know...) in the Hawaiian suite. The balcony overlooking the ocean was beautiful. Having windows on both walls gave the unit a very open feel. It was just far enough from town to be quiet yet still convenient. I will stay again next time I am on the Oregon coast.

My wife and I returned to Moolack Shores after being away nearly 40 years. This was one of the first hotels we stayed at when we moved to the Pacific Northwest. We fondly remembered the visit. We were not disappointed upon our return. Each of the rooms has a unique theme. We stayed in the Hunting Lodge room. It was equipped with all you would need and the view of the ocean was beautiful. The hotel is well located to explore the central portion of the Oregon coast. It will not be 40 years before our next visit.

All of the rooms are decorated on a theme and the theme includes far more than just decor. Books, paraphernalia, as well as signs, plaques, carvings, etc are in each room to add an in depth experience. Our family stayed in the Nautical Room and our 21 year old son found a book on The Dreadnaughts that he couldn't put down. The room was modeled to look like a ship's cabin with galley, head, even twin beds set in the wall below portholes which actually opened (there was also a king sized bed in the room). Naval books, an actual ship's log and newspaper clippings in a shadow box, plaques mounted to the wall, ship signs, etc, all added to the effect. There were enough beds for 4 in the room although there weren't quite enough dishes in the "galley" to cover all four of us, nor were there enough chairs at the dining table. This was the most private room in the complex with a deck set below the main deck and facing north towards Otter Rock and Cape Foulweather, although, we did hear footsteps from room above us. Even though we only had a range top and microwave and small refrigerator and limited space, most of the family wants to return only to this room since they had such an awesome experience. Our son and 18 year old daughter each had their own bunk and porthole with personal lamp light and both want to sleep at night with porthole open to listen to the surf. The room, especially around the edges of the bathroom floor could have been cleaner and there was a musty smell in the bathroom but everywhere else was clean enough. This is an older building but the owners have managed to keep things fairly nice. We were able to view the Hunting Room as well (somewhat shared deck with fence dividers separating each section of deck in front of the individual rooms) and it was decorated to the extreme (elk head mounted on the wall as well as carvings, fishing poles, etc to look like a hunting lodge) just as the Nautical Room was plus with more space (separate bedroom) and a full kitchen. Any room in this motel would be an unforgettable experience that one would want to return to. The location is excellent with a semi-private beach (Moolack Beach access is just to the north but the public tends to stay on that side of things.) and a terrific view of Yaquina Head lighthouse and headland. We were able to walk south down the beach most of the way to that headland and saw various rock formations that would have tide pools at low tide. This is definitely a place that we will return to and if I can convince the rest of the family, we'll be able to try some of the other rooms.

Room Tip: Any is good, stay in a room that would have the theme you'd like but reserve ahead as these room...

This was our first stay at Moolack Shores, but we will definitely be back! We spent our honeymoon here in the Camelot Room. The view is fantastic and the six miles of beach were mostly vacant (due to off season) and was like having our own private beach. The room was quaint and perfect for our needs. Loved the idea of a visitor's journal in the room and was neat to read of other's experiences over the years. We were visited each morning by the resident Sea Gull as we drank our morning coffee out on our private deck. We would definitely recommend Moolack Shores to anyone! It was also a convenient location to make a day trip up to Lincoln City and not too far from downtown Newport for meals and such.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views but definitely check out their website for room pictures and prices to se...

After leaving Portland we had no reservations. Rainy, fog...Thought we'd look for something in Newport. I just wanted to see, hear the ocean (we live in Albuquerque). When we spotted moolack shores she said that had popped up as good value. I walked the beach in the rain. she did some work w/wifi. Loved the ocean view!!!

This is our 28th year visiting Moolack Shores and we stayed in our favorite Room (#7 - Oregon Room). This little old motel is a wonderful place with very nice people who manage the place. Frank works very hard to keep the place going. I noticed that one person complained about Yvette, Frank's wife. Sure she comes across a little grumpy, but that is just Yvette. I think the gentleman who put her down so much shouldn't be so harsh and should probably look elsewhere if he was so unhappy. We have already made our reservations for next year and look forward to our little hideaway. There aren't any phones, but who doesn't use their cell phones these days? They have a pay phone on the premises and anyone can call the office to get ahold of someone who is staying there. The place is old, but every year we go there, there has been an upgrade of some kind. The rates in the fall are really great and the location is close to Newport or a drive up to Depoe Bay a few minutes away and not that far from Lincoln City. We love staying at Moolack and would recommend it to anyone. We knew the original owners of the place and actually spent part of our honeymoon here 28 years ago. It is a really, really nice place and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!!

Room Tip: Either Room #7 the Oregon Room or #6 the Hunting Lodge if you are looking for rooms with a full kitc...

We had the best stay here. The room was really nice and comfortable, quiet and cozy. We went there to get away and enjoy a weekend without kids. A much needed mommy and daddy time. Our room that we stayed in was a Nautical/ cabin of ship. It really worked especially the port hole that actually worked. The freshness of the air when opening your patio door and looking out towards the beach was nice as well.
