We booked this B and B based on the great ratings on Tripadvisor, but we were a little disappointed. Yes, the owners are kind an the welcome snacks were great, but...
1- the house is NOT an original Victorian home. It was built less than 20 years ago.
It could use definitely some deep cleaning (black handprints all over the white doors in the bathroom and bedrooms, mineral deposits from the water in the bathroom. The floor in the bathroom had a film on it..) and some upkeep (leaky shower that someone "fixed" with a wax, rusty connecting pipes, water logged baseboard needed replacement)
2- Having the guest take the shoes off because we might bring sand in, or might be noicy walking up the stairs?
Well, as repeated guests at the Haceta Head Lighthouse bed and breakfast (I'm comparing apples with apples) we were never told so, and the lighthouse is over 100 years old!!!!
Just cover the steps with a nice strip of carpet or, OR offer some slippers for the guests would solve the problem.
3- We travel extensively the world and Europe, but we don't understand the many bows around the house (see pics). Also, the forniture looks "tired".. Rattan, silk flowers...The Portland White house in Portland has a great example of Victorian furnitures and decor, if you are interested. Also, some door knobs are crome, some other brass, the artwork anywhere from (cheap reproductions) Rembrant, Van Gogh...without what seemed a cohesive theme.
4-Breakfast was good, traditional American. No fruit, cheese, yogurt.
5-The unkept home next door (less than 5 ft ) is a curb appeal killer. Maybe a nice white fence would help protect the look of the Victorian home.
For the money we paid, we feel we should bring our business elsewhere.
