We booked this B and B based on the great ratings on Tripadvisor, but we were a little disappointed. Yes, the owners are kind an the welcome snacks were great, but...
1- the house is NOT an original Victorian home. It was built less than 20 years ago.
It could use definitely some deep cleaning (black handprints all over the white doors in the bathroom and bedrooms, mineral deposits from the water in the bathroom. The floor in the bathroom had a film on it..) and some upkeep (leaky shower that someone "fixed" with a wax, rusty connecting pipes, water logged baseboard needed replacement)
2- Having the guest take the shoes off because we might bring sand in, or might be noicy walking up the stairs?
Well, as repeated guests at the Haceta Head Lighthouse bed and breakfast (I'm comparing apples with apples) we were never told so, and the lighthouse is over 100 years old!!!!
Just cover the steps with a nice strip of carpet or, OR offer some slippers for the guests would solve the problem.
3- We travel extensively the world and Europe, but we don't understand the many bows around the house (see pics). Also, the forniture looks "tired".. Rattan, silk flowers...The Portland White house in Portland has a great example of Victorian furnitures and decor, if you are interested. Also, some door knobs are crome, some other brass, the artwork anywhere from (cheap reproductions) Rembrant, Van Gogh...without what seemed a cohesive theme.
4-Breakfast was good, traditional American. No fruit, cheese, yogurt.
5-The unkept home next door (less than 5 ft ) is a curb appeal killer. Maybe a nice white fence would help protect the look of the Victorian home.
For the money we paid, we feel we should bring our business elsewhere.

Lovely B&B with fabulous hosts. My husband and I stayed in the Sir Charles room and, while we were content with our accommodations, we regretted not reserving the slightly larger Lady Catherine room. We're both fairly tall and the Charles, in our opinion, had perhaps a little too much furniture and not quite enough space. If we'd planned to stay for more than one night, we definitely would have upgraded. Since we were the only guests, the lack of space in our room was outweighed by having the entire second floor to ourselves. Loved the large bathroom and enjoyed our brief tour of the Victoria suite, which is beautiful. Cheese, crackers and wine were a most-welcome arrival snack. Eileen and Terry provided helpful information about dinner options and interesting post-meal conversation about the community. Breakfast was delicious and portions were ample. We live on the east coast of the U.S., but would love to return to the Grand Victorian again and spend several days in the area.

Room Tip: The Sir Charles room seemed a little cramped and over-filled for two tall adults (5'9" and...

We stayed at the Grand Victorian for one night during our trip up the west coast.
We arrived a liitle early but Eileen already had our room ready. We were greeted with a big smile and a delicious appetizer.
We had booked the Sir Charles room, which is a small room with a shared bathroom. The room was very cozy and clean. The queen size bed had the softest sheets that I experienced on the whole trip. The shared bathroom was huge and impecably clean.
The breakfast Eileen prepared in the morning was huge (eggs AND bacon AND pancakes AND hasbrowns) and very tasty.
I would stay at the Grand Victorian again and recommend it to friends,

An excellent stay in the suite on the third floor of this wonderful B&B. Eileen and Terry gracious hosts! A fantastic breakfast was provided and was so nice to eat home cooked food! The room was huge with an incredible view of the ocean one block away. Right in the heart of historic Nye Beach. Wish we stayed longer!!!! Loved it!

Room Tip: Do get the top floor suite for the extra $'s. We loved it!!!

The Grand Victorian is a perfect choice for B&B lovers. The decor is as classic Victorian as it gets, and the old three story house, so charming with unique finishes upon every turn. Terry welcomed us with warmth and delicious appetizers, and proceeded to give us an excellent dining recommendation for the freshest local seafood. Local Ocean in Newport Bay area, a must try! Go on a Wednesday for 1/2 price wine! He also made sure we had everything we needed for our overnight, as well as a late night snack of fresh baked cookies and tea, before leaving us for the night. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom, very clean. In the morning, after our beach run (just blocks away), Terry prepared for us a sumptuous and complete breakfast. He really is one of the kindest B&B owners we have ever encountered, and full of great stories! You won't be disappointed here, you'll be longing to return.

Eileen was a wonderful hostess! She made us great breakfasts, served us very kindly & cheerfully. The cottage was happily private allowing us to feel like it was our home away from home. Laundry use was great, allowing us to pack light. Proximity to the beach was perfect. Quiet, cozy and comfortable. We hope to stay there again! This was a September stay. Newport is wonderful! The Grand Victorian B&B / Vintage Cottage in Newport, Oregon is a real gem. It's convenient to the beach, a unique & beautiful building (inside & out), with a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. Eileen & Terry Obteshka are lovely people that welcome you & make you feel like you're right at home. An "affordable B&B" is almost unheard of these days yet besides your comfortable accommodations you'll certainly not go hungry either. We were greeted with a wonder appetizer tray to take to your room & enjoy at our leisure. In the evening (when we returned from a great dinner out) we helped ourselves to the homemade Vanilla Bourbon Oatmeal cookies & ice cream. And if that's not enough "bang for your buck", every morning you'll be treated to the heartiest & most delicious full breakfast you can imagine, served (at the breakfast time you choose) in the beautiful dining room. All of the great breakfast food not withstanding, the organic coffee and the inch-thick french toast was "to die for". The GV B&B is an experience not to be missed when your staying on the central Oregon coast. ~ Our recent overnight trip to the Oregon coast was very special for several different reasons. Besides unseasonably warm, sunny September beach weather . . . Besides spotting "a ton" of California Gray Whales just off shore along the beautiful Otter Crest Loop (a winding three-mile section of the old Coast Highway) . . . Besides ((finally)) driving the beautiful Mackenzie Pass Highway through the Willamette National Forest on our way back home. If all that's not special enough, our overnight accommodations at The Grand Victorian B&B were simply the best . . . ever!! Sincerely, Cathryn & Brent ~
