“Good steak and crab”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2013

A bit pricey for the atmosphere and location, but a darn good steak and some wonderful dungeness crab. Excellent wait staff, friendly place overall. Our rib eyes were lusciously medium rare and well marbled, the blue cheese salad dressing delicious ... and we appreciated the extra blue cheese crumbles on the side to crown the top. We were on a road trip, just passing through, but if we ever come that way again, we'll be sure to make it a stop.

“GOOD FOR STEAK”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

Making a stop in Prineville in the heart of cattle country we walked from our motel and came to the Stetson's House of Prime, which was recommended by our motel clerk ( we had a discount coupon with his number on it). Inside it was lots of hustle and bustle with wood floors and the ambiance of later version of an Old West cattlemen's bar.

Our waiter appeared after we were seated next to windows looking out on the street. After reading the menu and noting the prices $$$ we made our selections. Fresh baked bread was brought - warm and delicious! The waiter noted "the only free stuff in here is the bread and the water!" And that was the extent of our dining experience for quite awhile.

After we had eaten all the bread our salad arrived, and then a short time after that the main dishes. I don't think you can go wrong with any type of meat on the menu. But everything else is not up to the price point they charge. The green beans were over cooked, the baked potato had a cooked center but the rest was very hard. We skipped dessert as it was problematic what the quality of that might turn out to be.

I rated this Very Good only because of the steaks. I wouldn't come back for a second meal here, I think once you have paid their pricing and had a nice steak you have pretty much taken care of needing to come back again. I am disappointed when a upscale priced menu has a shortage of servers on a Friday night during the dinner hour, and the rest of the kitchen can't add value to the steaks they serve.

“Very slow service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

Great salad as a starter. Average entrees. We had to wait a long time to order, get the food and pay....It was not very busy so I don't know what we did wrong. Could it have been not ordering any alcohol? At these prices I expect more. The location was very convenient.

“Just okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2013 via mobile

Friendly owner, salad was fresh, soup was good, entree was "okay" and not more than that. Maybe we ordered the wrong items, not sure as this place was recommended. Will we go back? Yes, and we'll order something different, maybe Rib Eye steak!

“Old Western Atmosphere, contemporary big city prices, good food, GREAT service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2013 via mobile

After a long hard three days on the road with lots of fast food i wanted steak. A local recommeneded this and another. We chose Stetsons based on, locally owned and old town location. We were greeted, seated and served by Jared. He was professional but funny and competent! Thanks Jared. I had the New York, green beans, mashed potatoes, hubby had ribeye, potatoes, green beans. We both had salads. The salads were indeed a typical garden mix like you might buy at the store with only two grape tomatoes and a single baby carrot. But the bread more than made up for it! Steaming hot, chewy and served with real butter, we had two. The steaks came very shortly after we finished the salads and mine was cooked almost to perfection. Ordered well done usually gets pretty charred but this one looked like a medium steak on the outside and well on the inside. It was still juicy and very tender. The green beans looked plain but had a lot of flavor and the mashed potatoes were fine. The prices were kinda high but in reality, its about the going rate at non-chain steak houses that know how to prepare beef. Would definitely eat here again.
