“Home away from home”

This guesthouse was like a civilised and small backpackers for grown-ups - perfect for the price.

Location: a block away from two nice streets with a few restaurants, cafes and shops. A patisserie is down the road. You can walk to the city from here but it's not that close. Lots of other transport options. Beautiful area for architecture - brightly coloured houses and tree lined streets.

Accommodation: the room we chose was small but that was to be expected for the price. We hardly saw anyone else while we were staying here - never had to wait for a bathroom. The kitchen was great - had everything you need to make breakfast, and the basics were all provided. After a few weeks of travelling and eating out it was great to have a kitchen to use, especially with a Wholefoods not too far away.

I stayed there two nights and I really enjoyed the place.
Very well located in the middle of Nob Hill (for shopping and dining), very close to downtown for visiting.
Stephen was very helpful and friendly. He gave me lots of tips and advice.
Would definitely go back and recommend it.

We found this guesthouse wonderful. It was simple, but spotlessly clean with a fabulous old-fashioned bathroom and some great little touches. Our room was very small (although I think others are larger), but the owners had thought of everything you'd need to have a comfortable stay. The location is great too and I'd definitely recommend this place.

Just came back from spending several nights at the Portland International Guesthouse. My adult daughter accompanied me, and we each had our own room. Because of my late scheduling, we had to do a lot of moving around, so at some point we actually stayed in 4 of the inn's 6 rooms. Each of them was clean and comfortable, with plenty of lighting and air conditioning. Our host, Tim, could not have been more accommodating. This was my first experience with shared bathrooms, and I was a little concerned about that - but it turns out my concerns were groundless. There was never a wait for a bathroom, and they were always clean and well-kept.

Just a couple of cautions: if you have problems with stairs at all, this is not the place for you. There are a few stairs to get up to the entrance; a few more to get to the entry hall. Then there is a flight of stairs to the first level, where you will find the kitchen, the common room, the suite and one bedroom. The other four bedrooms are at the top of yet another flight of stairs.

Also, please do not come here expecting any form of breakfast. There are some boxes of cold cereal available for guests' use, but otherwise, it's Do It Yourself. You are welcome to provide your own food, and there is a refrigerator, a toaster, and a microwave for guests to use. They do provide ground coffee and a coffee pot for you to make your own, as well as teabags.

Overall, we were very pleased with the Portland International Guesthouse. It does feel like home in a very short time, and we will definitely stay there again when we visit Portland in the future.

We stayed here for a week and had the best time. The host was super nice and very helpful about what to do, where to eat etc. It was a full house but never had to wait for the bathroom and hardly even saw anyone. The place was very clean and the bed super comfy. Lots of shopping and eating down the street. If you walk over a couple of streets you can get on the streetcar and take it downtown. We used our rental car once out of the whole trip. There is a laundromat within walking distance. Parking was somewhat a challenge but we just ended up having to walk a little bit which isn't bad because the neighborhood is so beautiful. Thank you Portland International Guesthouse for a great stay!

Can you imagine a CLEAN, charming, cheap, comfortable oasis for travelers in a great location in Portland? The one where breakfasts are included in the price? Where you are welcomed so warmly, that you know you will come back as soon as your trip will take you back to Portland?
It is hard to imagine that, I know, however, Portland International Guesthouse offers all mentioned and much more. It is an ideal place.

It was perfect! Exactly what we were looking for. The photos on the website were limited so we weren't sure what to expect, as we lugged our bags up two small flights of stairs to our 3-bed private room. Opening the door though, we knew we'd be okay. It was fully furnished by Ikea, so there wasn't really a massive personal touch to the room, but the house still retained a lot of character. The kitchen downstairs had adequate fridge/shelf/storage space for the 6 (I think?) bedrooms in the house, and was never too crowded. I didn't go into the one common room much, but it looked very clean and homely, with a TV, telephone and lots of local guides.

The ground floor (as you come in the door) just has one computer that I never had trouble getting onto. The first floor has the kitchen, common room, a few bedrooms and one bathroom. The top floor (ours) has one bathroom and (I think) 3 bedrooms. I was a bit worried about shared bathrooms, but was pleasantly surprised that everybody was very respectful and kept them incredibly clean after using them. The floor was never wet, and there was never any hair stuck in the plugholes or anything!
