Perfect location for restaurants, light rail and shops, staff well trained, very clean room, work out room, business center.
My only suggestion is if you are use to a quiet location pick a high floor than 4th. floor to keep down the traffic noise in the morning but it wasn't bad and I am a light sleeper.

We stayed at the hotel for a wedding that took place at the same early October. I can't say enough about how well we were treated. Right from the time we checked in the wee hours of the morning until our late check out, the hotel staff's hospitality never ceased to amaze me. I have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world and I have to admit, we were treated exceptionally well at Hotel Monaco. They accommodated our every need, right from providing warm milk to our toddlers and offering us some extra time after checkout due to our late night flight. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is going on a vacation. The room service staff, the valet service, front desk & even the door men are so courteous and polite. Loved my trip to Portland-thanks for Hotel Monaco!

This place was perfect...great location, super friendly and accomodating staff, and loved the room! Would absolutely stay there again and recommended it twice to friends/family who have gone up to visit!

Our first trip to Portland, with no outside influence or insight on where to stay or what to see, we booked our trip entirely based on reviews found online and I don't think I could have been any more pleased with our hotel selection.

Our room was large, clean and very well appointed. The staff was extremely helpful whenever we had questions or needs. The evening happy hour was well attended and enjoyable, and every staff member who looked up our reservation made a point to wish my wife a happy birthday (primary reason for the trip). They even provided a complimentary bottle of champagne in the room for the occasion.

The downtown location provided easy access to/from the airport via the MAX Rail and was well within reasonable walking distance to all of the downtown Portland attractions, including the Japanese Rose Garden. A rental car agency just 1 block away made for the perfect place to grab a car & head for Mt. Hood for a day too. Free in room Wi-Fi for members of their Loyalty Program (Free To Join) was a huge plus for us too.

Last but certainly not least, I can't say enough good things about the Red Star Tavern & Roast House downstairs either. We ended each day of our trip with at least a night cap in the bar, and one night had dinner there too. The bartenders & wait staff began to recognize us on our second time in, and treated us like regulars. The food & specialty drinks were fantastic too.

Don't hesitate to stay here, you won't be disappointed!

We've stayed here before - during the July heat wave of 2009 - and came up this time to drop our son off at the Univ. of Oregon. It was a rough trip and my husband and I were really ready to relax when we arrived for one night before heading back to California. We were warmly greeted but told our room wasn't quite ready -- we knew we were early - so we took a walk around this great neighborhood. Coming back an hour later, the staff commiserated with us for the "loss" of our son, but sent us up to our Kind Suite. Wine and chips awaited and were quickly doused... my husband took off for a wonderfully priced massage downstairs while I napped. We were both exhausted from the events of the week and just wanted to scoot down for a quick bite and then to bed... that was our only disappointment.
Red Star had been a great place when we last visited... we ate several meals there during our 4 days there in 2009, but this time -- ugh. The place was basically empty on a Saturday night - which should have been our warning. The server was prompt but the food was AWFUL. Salad was watery. Gumbo was brownish broth with odd tasting rice -- I didn't want it and gave it to my husband and he turned it down too. . I was so tired I can't even remember what my husband had as an entree... but he was very unhappy. We ordered dessert as we were quite hungry and even that was bad. Back upstairs to the room to scavenge out of the honor bar. We we not pleased.
A good nights' sleep put us back on our feet and we headed out around check out time. Service was always good at The Monaco and we were happy to see that hasn't changed.
We'll undoubtedly be back, but will make a point of walking off property for our dinner -- too bad.

Hotel Monaco is a great place to stay in downtown Portland. The hotel has a very comfortable feel to it - warm and welcoming. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was large and comfortable, and decorated pleasantly.

Lobby has a great sitting area where you can just relax or join in on the free nightly wine tasting. Hotel is pet friendly and provides free wi-fi.

Would definitely recommend it to others.

Had a one night stay using the hotel's 'Park in Portland' rate that included valet parking. Funky looking hotel decor and furniture, a change from many of the blander hotels. Good staff. Room was perhaps a little smaller than expected but still reasonable size with good bed.
