“Expected something different”

My partner stayed here a few years ago and enjoyed it, so he booked here again while we were on business with a few added days of pleasure. Positives: the staff, every one of them was great! We learned many by name. The negatives: our room was tiny, the street noise was loud, but when we closed the window at night, the air conditioner didn't work because of the motion sensors. We tried to change settings without luck. So, either we kept window open with noise or became hot. I didn't sleep much in six evenings. We also had trouble getting hot water to shower, odd. The restaurant is good, I suppose. My tastes are very simple so I felt the food was way over priced for few options and what I ate, I didn't appreciate the way it was intended. The scones, though were delicious and a different flavor every morning. If you're a person that needs coffee in the morning, you'll have to wait, a) until the restaurant opens at 6:30 AM or b) walk a few blocks. The tiny cups of coffee in those room coffee makers never cut it for me, so I was left pacing carpet for my caffeine fix. A coffee bar by the front desk would be a great idea for early risers. I'd book there again if I knew our room would be bigger and we could avoid the noise. Again, the staff was awesome!!! They took very good care of us. The atmosphere is also trendy, so that could be considered a positive!

We had a little more than 24 hours to kill in Portland and wanted to make the most of our stay, having never been there before. Found this hotel to have great ratings and good location so we booked one evening. Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Location was centrally located and easily accesible to streetcar and river. Price was very reasonable for how nice the property is. Great outside cocktail area with amazing drinks. Rooms are not very large but this was expected since it is advertised as boutique. Only "problem" we had was our iron didn't work. Womp, womp.

Hotel Modera in Portland, OR, is spot on for location. We live far enough from downtown that an evening at the theater involves a long, late drive home, so we frequently stay "in town" on such occasions. Hotel Modera is perfectly located between the Performing Arts Center and the Keller Auditorium, about two blocks from each. Hotel Modera is a remodeled Days Inn, and the room size shows it. While the rooms are tastefully decorated, they are quite small, and our bathroom wasn't much bigger than a small closet. The only parking that the hotel offers is valet parking, for an additional $27 (plus tip, of course). That brought our total room cost for the evening to about $222...quite a bit for such a tiny accommodation. I should point out that the staff was very courteous and friendly and the public areas were well done and pleasant. Still, $222 seemed a bit steep for what we received.

Room Tip: The rooms are well-insulated for noise, but one might want to be away from the street or higher in t...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying with Hotel Modera on your recent trip to Portland. I’m very pleased to hear that you found out location convenient, and the staff friendly. I’m sorry that you were dissatisfied with the size of your room. The structure itself was built in the 60’s and when renovating we did not alter the size of the guestrooms. However, we believe our well appointed guestrooms and the luxurious comfort of the space, the value is well worth the price, even in our peak season. We hope to have you again on your next trip to Portland.

Best Regards,

The Hotel Modera is our favorite hotel in Portland. Tastefully modern, yet warm and inviting. The two do go together here! The rooms are well appointed and comfortable and prices are reasonable for this location. To get the best rate is to call hotel directly. Ask them what they have available and they will give you the best offer AND ask you if there are any special request. We couldn't think of anything but were offered a view room on a high floor away from the elevator. The hotel staff is exceptional. Friendly, informative and available. A BIG tip, go to the restaurant attached to the hotel (I forget the name) at Happy Hour and EAT! The food is fantastic, affordable and the setting is perfect...lots of outside space where large fire "walls" warm you in the cool evenings. One fact about hotels in downtown Portland, the parking is expensive. But, it's less at Modera than other hotels and there is a package that includes parking. We have stayed here 3 times and we will always stay here whenever we go to Portland. Just love the Modera

This time we decided to splurge on a suite. We were booked in to the top floor, corner with a great view. Big thank you to Johnny, the concierge, for recommending / booking fantastic restaurants. We love the location and the amenities. The restaurant (Nel centro) is good for breakfast. We'll be back next year.

We enjoyed our stay at the Modera. Hotel itself is very nice, staff is attentive and friendly, adjoining restaurant is first class. While we didn’t have a problem with the room size, we do have a negative comment is about the storage space in the room. My wife, myself and our adult daughter stayed in a 2 double bed room for 4 nights. While there was plenty of room to place suitcases under a long table top, there was almost no storage space for clothes – only a relatively small two drawer chest between the two beds and the top shelf of a standard sized closet. So, we largely lived out of the suitcases.

Absolutely love this place. This is the second time I've stayed here and service, quality is just as good as before. The staff is so friendly, efficient and make you feel special. It was even better this time, because of the weather. We were able to take advantage of the awesome outdoor patio at the attached restaurant, and enjoyed a glass of wine on a balmy night sitting around the fire pit. Location was so convenient. We walked everywhere, and the public transportation system was also available, but we never needed it.
