I'm giving this place four stars despite a rather rocky start. We arrived very early and was told that our room was not ready (fair enough ... we hadn't expected it to be ready). We were told we could leave our bags and that our rooms would be ready in about two hours (again, as we had expected considering how early we arrived). Well, we roamed the city a bit and came back FOUR hours later and was told that our room was still not ready. They gave us some drink vouchers for the bar which helped but since we had an infant in desperate need of a nap, we were quite annoyed. Finally, after another 45 minutes, we got into our room. After that, everything was pretty awesome.
The room was clean, well appointed, and while there was some street noise (after all, you're downtown, right next to rail lines), it wasn't intrusive. We had planned to stay only one night but we decided that evening to stay an extra night and while the room was definitely not the sole reason, it did play a factor in our decision.
The staff was also great and despite the delayed check-in, the weekend went quite smoothly. At one point, I got sick and my wife and had to call down to the front desk at 2 in the morning for some nyquil (from their sundry store). Literally within moments of putting the phone down there was knock on the door.
My only major criticism of the hotel (and the reason I'm giving it four and not five stars) is the heating system. We had a suite and the thermostat was in the bedroom but it seemed like none of the bedroom ducts were working. When the bedroom door was closed, the main living area would heat up quite a bit and the bedroom would remain very cold. This wasn't an issue when you had the bedroom door open but we were with a small infant and after putting him down to sleep, my wife and I (along with some friends) wanted to hang out in the main living area but we had to choose between making the bedroom freezing cold or making the living area uncomfortably warm. Once they get that fixed, this place is a five-star hotel, hands down.
