“paleo pasta!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

I was worried about going to DOC since becoming a Paleo/Primal eater (no grains means no pasta, not even the gluten free kind that have become so popular). I went to meet up with friends & was happily surprised to discover an excellent steak with a salad which is a perfect meal for me. They do such a good job preparing everything; my friends raved about their pasta & risotto & the small size of the place makes it feel intimate & special. I've been there for a birthday & another special occasion & will definitely go again. And the wine was delicious too!

“Hit or Miss”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

Everything at this place was hit or miss. The service was downright rude at times to great. Some of the dishes were not that great to amazing. We got the tasting menu and perhaps that was the problem. It started with the oysters, which were actually good. The only problem is that they were very small. Now, I know that oysters vary in size based on type and where they are from, but one of them was literally the size of a pea. This is just something I don't expect when paying the prices that are charged. The pasta dish was very good. The lamb dish was someone bland. The fish (albacore) was amazing! We, luckily, had the opportunity to sit outside on the sidewalk and I'm glad we did. I spent less than a minute in the kitchen upon arrival and it was unbearably hot. Some of the other diners looked like they had walked out of a sauna when they were leaving. I would recommend this place to others because it has a lot of potential, but be warned...

“intimate culinary delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

We like to find restaurants not besieged by tourists and this fit the bill. Small intimate dining room with wonderful personal attention. Quite enjoyable to watch our dinners prepared in front of us - an inspiration for us "average" meal preparers. A wonderful selection of wines which the staff are very well informed about and provide excellent advice on choices. We left relaxed, satiated and grateful.

“Very Special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2013

As other reviewers have stated, you enter the restaurant through the kitchen. We had a great seat to see them prepare our dishes. We selected the set menu with the wine pairing. Each dish was a beautiful presentation of locally grown produce and meats. Very fresh and well balanced with the delicious wines. Although not cheap, it was a good value. The service was spot on. Would come here again

“Special occasion - made more special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2013

We went on our 20th anniversary, for special dinner, and were pleased in nearly every regard.
We were seated immediately next to the kitchen, a request I'll make if we go again. We got to see the well-oiled machine that is the staff here make their magic on the food they serve.
We each had three courses, and shared a desert, with a bottle of wine. We had considered the tasting menu, but it seemed as though it would be too much food, so we ordered a la carte.
All of the food was outstanding - it's hard to single out a course that was better than another - although my lamb was some of the best I've ever eaten.
The best part of the evening for us was chatting with the chefs about food - they were engaging, charming, and truly seemed interested in the conversation. We also found out that the canned goods on the shelves are canned by them, and used in their food!
Suggest that if you can wait, choose the second seating (as we did) - it got quieter, and I think the service was probably a bit better.
Our only complaint was about the wine steward, who was more than a bit condescending to us - but was easily overlooked by the quality of the wine available.
Thanks to the chefs for a memorable meal!
