“Luxury & Quiet - Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

This Embassy Suites is what you would expect from this luxury hotel. Valet parking and check in was welcoming and very helpful with information. I requested a quiet room and got exactly what I asked for - we only occasionally heard our neighbors doors and never heard the street traffic 7 floors below. Room service was prompt and not too high priced. We watched a movie and my son used the in-room video game system for one hour. The bed was super comfy and we had sufficient pillows. The heat/cool controls were easy to locate and adjust. The breakfast buffet line was super fast and we had plenty of places to choose from to sit, as well as a Wall Street Journal to read. The location was superb for visiting the Saturday Market and VooDoo Donuts (expect a line there). The only minor issues were that water pressure wasn't great, we couldn't get the curtains completely closed in the bedroom to block out all the morning sun, and the valet retrieved our car last even though we arrived first out of four families. We will stay here again!

Room Tip: Room 731 is the largest room on the floor and very quiet.

Lovely large Suites, good variety at included breakfast with made to order eggs and omelette s and lovely cocktails and snacks at evening managers reception. The foyer of the hotel was amazing.Staff always friendly and helpful. .The gym was good and clean. the pool was also good. Lots of facilities on site, close to restaurants, train and shops. Lovely city to visit, lots to do within walking distance.

This hotel is wonderful. Upon arriving, valet service was very prompt and helped with our bags. You feel like you're in a dream when you walk into the lobby. . . It is breathtaking! Check in was quick. Rooms were very nice size and beds very quite comfy. The only downfall was that the sofas have seen better days. Great room service for drinks when we wanted. Fantastic location and it was easy to hop a cab to dinner. Bathrooms were very nice. The reception and breakfast was wonderful and full of selection. Pool and hot tub looked quite nice. A must stay in Portland!

Room Tip: High floor to minimize street noise.

The hotel is great. Attractive price, well-featured, good service, huge rooms (suites). It's older, and the elevators are slow - but that's part of the charm.
Morning breakfast in the basement is a major production - amazingly good, and included for free.
The hotel is also close to downtown (walking), eateries and Chinatown. Convenient.
But....the army of panhandlers and transients that throng the streets, especially after dark, are a real drag. It's not fair to blame the hotel. What can they do?
Regardless, it's downer to be nagged by street people, some polite and some not, every time you step out the hotel.
I thought San Francisco was the worst in this regard. If so, Portland is now a close second. I'd never bring my wife here.

This hotel is excellent for families who want to enjoy downtown PDX. We are a walking family so for us the hotel is an excellent distance to the core of all the shopping like Nordies and such. Powells is too far off either and the waterfront. The hotel itself is clean and staffed by attentive staff. In the price if the room you get drinks and snacks in the evening and free real breakfast (omelette and hash browns). Pool is clean and both hot tubs are comfortable. The cozy work out room is not bad for a quick work out but the waterfront is near so runners can indulge outside if the weather permits. All in all this is a solid place.

Really liked the upgrade to the Qwest Suite. Did you know that if you take a survey emailed from the hotel that they will ask you to provide more info on tripadvisor? The Qwest Suite has a raised platform for the bed area with a 10' wall and the suite is over 20' ceiling with a living area and boardroom table. Nice.

Room Tip: upgrade to Qwest suite.

$400+ for 2 nights in a non-suite? What has happened to ES downtown Portland? Valet service = fabulous. Free breakfast and mangers reception = awesome. Lisa = not so good. Portland Prime = great happy hour if you're looking for something outside of the ES reception. Tanya was great and the bartenders very knowledgeable. Beds = great, as always. I just don't see paying $200+/night for a teeny tiny room with no desk and no living space (keeping in mind, it wasn't the typical ES "suite"). I realize Spring Break is a busy time, but pleasing return customers is a must. I'll give ES downtown Portland another try, but if this keeps up....I'm moving to the Heathman!
