“Great location, disappointing room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2014 via mobile

This is probably the best location of any of the major hotels in Portland to easily make it back from old town or coming back from across town. The hotel it's self is nice and has all the traditional embassy touches, and is reasonably priced. However the room I had was, um not desirable. I had a lovely view of the hvac units on the 2nd floor, it was right next to an unusually noisy elevator bank, and is probably the smallest embassy room I've ever stayed in. Do stay at this hotel, unless you get room 234, it's like the janitors closet they turned into a room.

Stayed January 2014, travelled solo

Ah! I'm so sorry, Andrew! We have a handful of non-suite rooms at a lower price, and we certainly try our best to have folks upgraded! On sold out nights, it's not always so easy.

Next time you're with us, request one of our newly renovated city-view rooms from me! They're wonderful!

This is our 3rd stay at the Embassy Suites Portland - Downtown. We took the train to Portland and got a taxi to the hotel, but next time we'll try the MAX, which is a mere 2 blocks away and runs right to the train station. Front desk and bell service are friendly and efficient and the grand lobby is magnificent. The remodel work of this historic location is ongoing. Rooms are well appointed and large. We reserved a cityview suite, and while the view of a parking lot was a bit disappointing, our vista to the west exhibited the city lights and I-5 traffic nicely. Suites have a refrigerator, microwave, table an separate lounge and bedroom. A breakfast and manager's "reception" are freely provided.

Room Tip: Top floors 7 & 8 have the best views.

Definitely hop on the MAX next time you're in town, JB! It's such a wonderful Portland amenity.

Our complete room renovation is nearly complete! Next time you're in town, you'll have to let us know what you think. :)

Had a wonderful stay at the Portland Embassy Suites Downtown. The lobby/main entrance had an invitating & upscale feel. The rooms were the best - comfortable bedding always makes is easier to sleep thru the night when away from home. The hotel was in walking distance to the MAX (~2 blocks) - easy to use and get around in - arena, mall, convention center, airport on the same route. Embassy provided Free breakfast and a complimentary evening reception :) Would stay again.

Overall the best hotel we have stayed at for a long time. The lobby is magnificent. Extra effort went in detailing the remodel of this historic location. It didn't cost an arm and a leg. A great value. Located within walking distance to many outstanding restaurants. Shopping and recreational events are also easily reached through either walking or the good transportation system Portland has.

We stayed 4 days at the hotel in Jan. 2014. Everything was exceptional from the time we drove up to the entrance until we departed. As we arrived and parked across the street a young man immediately came to our vehicle and offered assistance. He saved a parking space in front of the hotel. He unloaded our luggage and gave us the neccessary directions to our room. He also took our keys and parked our car in the covered lot across the street telling us we could get it anytime whenever we wanted. Checkin was expedicious, and we were alerted to the available freebes and amenities. The lobby is that of an old grand hotel, very spacious with a wonderful atmosphere of elegance. By the way the cost of our spacious suite was not excessive and quite frankly we were suprised how low it was! The room was clean, fully supplied, well lighted and with a quiet and efficient air conditioner. As with most Embassy suites breakfast including the usual plus custom made omelets if desired. Evening drinks and snacks were also included in the room fee. The hotel is located near many attractions especially museums etc. On the premise is the Prime Portland restaurant and bar. the food is excellent and service impeccable. You must at least stop and see this beautiful hotel if you are in the area. There is much more to tell but others have posted the same information and I agree.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 4th floor and was quiet. The view was of the street below. I don't think any...

Great Service, Great Breakfast Good location. I've stayed at this hotel many times. I find it beautiful, warm and friendly. Rooms are huge. At Christmas a group of kids were invited to sing and the lobby was beautiful.

I think Embassy Suites Portland-Downtown did a great job, and the feeling of history in an old building just added to the experience. Clean and modern with an ambiance of the old is tough to do, but they did it. I almost booked at Embassy Suites Washington Square by mistake , which would have been a great mistake, because downtown was where my meeting took place!
