“Great experience”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

My friend and I were in town for a brief stay at the end of a girls' trip to the Oregon Coast. We stayed at the Embassy Suites downtown and really enjoyed it. The front desk staff was very pleasant and quick to point out the "boil order" that had gone into effect for the city that weekend. As a result, they had stocked the rooms with bottled water and were using bagged ice for happy hour. The concierge was also very helpful with and enthusiastic about our planned outings.

We had a corner suite on the 8th floor, room 816, from which we were able to see the city's fireworks our first night there. All the rooms (sitting room, bathroom, bedroom) were spacious and clean. The furnishings seemed fresh and new. The location was great, with a quick walk to Voodoo Doughnuts, and an easy walk to Mother's (where we had dinner) as well as the Portland Saturday Market (where we spent hours). We opted not to park in the hotel lot, instead parked in the city lot around the corner. It had a great weekend rate (about $9 per night), so we saved money there.

Along with the places mentioned above, we enjoyed Powell's Books, the Rose Garden and Japanese Garden, a trip to Multnomah Falls, ice cream at Salt & Straw (seriously delicious, but go during off-hours to avoid really long lines) and eating on the retrofitted school bus at The Grilled Cheese Grill.

Room Tip: Room 816 is a corner room with the bedroom set back from the street which helps obscure street noise...

Our first time staying at an Embassy Suites hotel and it was wonderful! We had a lovely decorated two room suite with private bedroom, separate living area and a large bathroom. A full breakfast is included with the stay which is super! Also, complimentary appetizers and beverages are served in late afternoon at Evening Reception. How great is that? The staff here were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had about the area. This hotel is in a great location with easy access to lots of attractions! The next time we are in Portland, we will definitely stay here again!

We recently drove up to Portland from Eugene for some time in the big city with our boys (8 and 5). The Embassy Suites in downtown Portland was just what we needed—plenty of space in our king suite for the 4 of us, and the pool, hot tub, breakfast, and manager's reception were hits with all of us. Tip: we parked in deck right next to the hotel, but not the parking deck owned or run by Embassy Suites, and it saved us at least $10 (no in-and-out privileges, but we planned to introduce the boys to the Tri Met trains anyway).

This is one fun experience living in a hotel built in 1912 but with every modern convenience and service. It is an antique with all the quality of an Embassy Suite. It is right in the center of downtown Portland and walking distance to all those wonderful restaurants and shopping.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor as it is the quiet zone.

I am near diamond level at Hilton brands this year (it's only May) and this is likely one of the worst hotels I have stayed. It started with difficulty finding the hotel parking garage leaving me using valet. The front desk was not friendly and my room was not at all to my liking (I am easy to please and normally don't care where I sleep as long as it's clean, has wifi, electricity, and slight water pressure). They couldn't change rooms, the ventilation system broke, my room cooling system chirped liked a hamster wheel, and the clerk at the hotel store was rude...this is Oregon, everyone is nice so where did they import their staff?

Breakfast is nice and there is free beer and wine in the evenings but no real food for those use to the Executive Lounge at Hilton hotels. The on premise restaurant - Prime is expensive, tasteless, and offers a poor quality meats. The bar is okay, a little expensive but nothing you wouldn't expect.

It is a downtown hotel so expect strip clubs and homeless people (Oregon's homeless are likely the most polite people you will ever encounter. They seldom beg and have a live and let live attitude).

Based on the attitude of staff, poor services, and DOA meals this is not a place I could recommend. I will be visiting Portland often but will not stay here again.

Room Tip: Careful of choosing suites, they are on the lower floors.

Green Features: Poor, had to search for a recycle can, they don't promote green living here.

We spent a Saturday night at the downtown Portland Embassy Suites. The hotel is situated not far from Waterfront Park and the Saturday market, though it is a bit of a walk from the shopping district. Service was friendly and efficient from the valet service to the front desk to housekeeping. We had an upper floor suite with a nice view. A few amenities like bathrobes and an extra blanket would have been nice, but the room was generally well appointed. We were not able to take advantage of the "manager's reception" due to an early dinner reservation, but the free breakfast on Sunday morning was really very good - a definite improvement on what we have had at other hotels. Overall, I would recommend this property.

Room Tip: Upper floors take you away from street noise.

Excellent location and the free breakfast and happy hour doesn't hurt either! The staff is very responsive. The pool is handicapped accessible. The interior décor is lush and very attractive. Close to Chinatown and the Saturday market.
