I'm a fan of Kimpton hotels. They are boutique without being cutesy, but have all the amenities you expect from bigger properties. This was the perfect location for a Portland weekend. Close to the Pearl district for exploring. Comfortable beds and the first time I have ever loved a hotels pillows!

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at the Vintage Plaza over the Easter long weekend. The hotel is small but charming. Our check-in was quick and fast. One of the two elevators was out of service during our time there. This was a little inconvenient but did not bug us too much. We loved the hotel staff's attitude towards this. They seemed to acknowledge this inconvenience, joke about it and try to address it. They had Scrabble games set up on each floor next to the elevator. This gave us something to do each time we were waiting for the elevator making our time waiting for the elevator go a lot quicker. We also took the stairs a few times which isn't a bad deal to get a little exercise.

The rooms are small but comfortable. We had a corner room on the 4th floor. The only compliant about the room is the shower. Every once in a while, the shower would start to make this very loud noise when on, the entire shower tap would vibrate and shake. I would have to turn off the water and re-start it to make it stop.

I saw some comments indicating the rooms are loud and that you can hear the traffic, etc. We personally did not have this problem. There was a wedding in the hotel one of the nights. When we were in the room, we could not hear a thing. When we stepped out of our room and realized how loud it was, we were shocked that we couldn't hear a thing in our room!

The hotel offers complimentary coffee and tea in the morning and wine hour at 5pm every night. We enjoyed the wine hour twice however, the coffee/tea set up did not work for us. Coffee/tea is generally set up in the lobby however, because of one of the elevators being out of service, the hotel had set up coffee outside the elevators on each floor. The two times we did attempt to get coffee, it was all gone. It would have been nice if they refilled the coffee. This wasn't a big deal to us by any means.

The service of all the staff, including valet, at Vintage Plaza was impeccable. Everyone was very friendly. I loved how pet friendly Vintage Plaza is as well.

Be warned that parking is expensive, close to $40/night I believe. We felt $40/night is quite steep. Although, I guess this is the common rate at any downtown parking lot.

Dear CassBell -
Your review best expressed our intentions here at the hotel- THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Our historic hotel has had 2 Million in investment over the past 14 months. I cannot effectively express my gratitude to you for acknowledging our staff's positive ownership and attitude to make the best of doing the right thing for our guests. Though this project is inconvenient for a moment, it increases the safety and comfort for all of our guests and employees. The last of these projects, and the most visible, is our elevator modernizing project.... we are on the countdown, just days until completion. This is for the safety and the convenience of our guests.
We have just invested and refurbished "sustainable window upgrades" which has not only enhanced our energy efficiency, reduced the in room noise, it has also enhanced the beauty of our historic building inside and out. This has been quite a journey for our team and our guests. CassBell, hurry back to spend more time with us and bring all of your friends! Thank You - Thank You- Thank You! May your journeys continue to bring you joy until you come back to stay with us again. All the best, Sandy Burkett, GM

First time visiting portland, I wanted a place that was in the city center, reasonably priced and within walking distance to bars and restaurants in the Pearl District. Check, Check, Check... Liked also the free bikes to rent. Also like the early afternoon free wine tastings. Nice bar/restaurant as well. Couldn't have picked a better location. Sluckumms approved.

Spent two nights here for a business trip. Room was nice - average size - with a comfortable bed. Appreciated nice bath amenities in ample supply. Location in outstanding for walking to the river, Powell's bookstore, and good food options. Must say room service here was outstanding and reasonably priced (a first in my experience). Staff were really outstanding and friendly, in addition to professional. Only negative was downtown location means noise from garbage trucks and the like starting at 3 am. Bring your earplugs.

Dear Bear66; I loved your review- thank you for your gracious comments and the advise to other travelers. Sorry that you had noise from outside. We too have earplugs at the front desk for any of our really light sleepers, and our rooms on the 8th floor that are well insulated from outside sound, as they have skylights vs. windows. Again, your review rocked and we look forward to serving you again on your next trip to Portland. Always our pleasure to serve, Sandy Burkett, GM

Can’t beat this downtown Portland location for access to the restaurants and shops of the lively Pearl District and the city center. This was my third stay at the Vintage Plaza and this time I was disappointed to find myself in a large, dark, oddly stark room at the rear of the hotel. Avoid 806 unless you happen to be traveling with a St Bernard dog or children who want room to play. Still, the bed was great, and the linens nice. In the morning, fresh out of the shower, I discovered a used towel, left by a previous guest, hanging behind the door, and no hair dryer in the room. Housekeeping responded, but it was an inconvenience, and not the kind of attentive maintenance that I expect from Kimpton hotels.

Dear SpiritedWalker;
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with other potential guests and our own team. I would agree with you, that you have every right to expect the most attentive service and cleanliness standards from our property. This is certainly not representative of the quality and cleanliness standards that we are committed to delivering. I do hope we can re-earn your trust and that you will allow us that opportunity. Until the next time you are traveling into Portland, may your journey be filled with joy and wonder. All the best, Sandy Burkett, GM

Had a large group staying at the Vintage Plaza for a wedding nearby. Service was first-class, accommodations were excellent, and the hotel staff was outstanding! One elevator was out of service, but the staff was very accommodating and helped make up for the inconvenience by stepping out of the elevator so we could step on. Bellman were personable, hardworking and prompt. Front desk staff was friendly and worked hard to accommodate our numerous requests. Prior to the event, Marisa in the sales office was friendly, helpful and professional. Hotel is beautifully decorated, well-appointed and just the right size. Thanks for making my daughter's wedding weekend so perfect!

Dear Suzabelv;
Your review was such a pleasure to read, authentic and real. I so appreciate your acknowledgement that our team is doing all they can to ensure great guest experiences while "upgrading our elevators". I am thrilled that we had the honor of ensuring that your daughters wedding weekend was perfect. We hope to see you all back with us a year from now on their first anniversary! We will have both elevators humming right along and all of our renovation work will have long since been complete. Again, thank you for trusting us to care for your daughters big event and honoring us to serve you all.
May your journey continue to be filled with wonder! Sandy Burkett, GM

I held my wedding at Monterey Plaza a couple of weeks ago, and it was a great experience! The venue is very picturesque, the service was top-notch, and the food was delicious. I greatly appreciated the professionalism of the staff, including their wedding planner Alexis who was a real partner every step of the way. It makes a big difference to have someone with that kind of experience and expertise guiding you and keeping you on track with all the different things that one has to manage in order to pull off a wedding. I'm happy to recommend this venue to anyone looking to book a wedding in the Monterey area.

Room Tip: Worth the extra money to get an ocean view room
