“Contemporary Northwest art awards”

We didn't get the chance to see the entire museum, just the contemporary section. I was very unimpressed. A lot of the "artwork" seemed forced and had very little vision. The weird zipper displays were bothering. I did enjoy the instrumental piece by Trimpin. All in all the visit was decent. I'd go back to look at the rest of the museum but probably not more than once a year.

“Interesting Mix”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

It was raining (surprise) the day we had planned to walk around downtown Portland, so we decided to go to the Art Museum. Items in the various collections range from Ancient Asian statues, to a Monet, to Native American clothing, to a Chihuly, to modern zipped-up displays in the middle of the floor, and the list goes on. Though not the largest of museums, it really is quite an interesting mix of different cultures, styles, and years. And for the price of admission it was worth a few rainy afternoon hours.

“Samurai exhibit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

my group of four was able to visit the Samurai exhibit during free admission night. While the museum was free, the Samurai collection was $5 which was a steal. The collection was large and had a lot of great examples of armor and helmets, many things we had never seen before. It was really informative and fun to walk around.
It was packed! So be aware that if you go during a night like this, that there are a ton of people, which might make it hard to read/look at everything. If you don't like crowds then go during the normal time.
All in all,we were happy with our trip her and we'd love to come back and tour the rest of the museum.

“Enjoyable and Interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2013

This small museum has a small collection of many different art genres. The American collection has a few works by Gilbert, Peale, and Eakins. The Impressionist collection is very small; however, one painting by Marisot is, in my opinion one of her finest. The staff was very helpful in helping us find our way between the buildings. I think the museum would benefit by informing customers about the various works by known artists. For example, it was security personnel who told us about the Chihuly pieces.
