Owner description: One of the oldest art museums on the west coast with an impressive collection of Native American and Asian art, plus a large modern and contemporary wing. Rotating special exhibitions bring the best of the art world to Portland.
Reviewed 8 June 2014

Portland's art museum has a large variety of different styles of art like most larger cities. It has small samples of Renaissance, Asian, Baroque, Impressionist and more modern art in a separate wing.
There are rotating exhibits and the Asian collection is quite large.
If you happen to be in town on the last Fri. of the month, entry is free from 7p to closing, but that doesn't leave you enough time to see all of it. That is enough time for say the Modern art wing only. Worth your time if you are downtown awhile.

Went on a Friday evening when admission was free. A good number of people there but not crowded. Eclectic collection very well presented.

Loved the museum they had various exhibits to see some very strange and others beautiful! I especially loved the photography exhibit! However, make sure you avoid going before lunch time during the week as many schools take little children to the museum or call ahead. It was very loud and groups of kids were running around which made it hard to enjoy some of the exhibits. Once the groups started leaving it was nice and peaceful. I also recommend visiting the gift ship! They had tons of cute gifts for all ages, very unique!

Well presented and good handicapped access. Interesting, if limited, temporary exhibit on Oriental Blue Porcelain. Nice smaller museum BUT not on the level of major international art museums.

We recently visited the museum to see the baroque exhibit. It was a well done exhibit although nowhere on par with the pre-recession exhibits of the art world. It is well worth a visit if you can find a discount ticket.
