This garden is located in the park above the International Rose Test Garden. It is worth the admission price to see what a real Japanese garden looks like: carefully planned, serene, water and nature.

Although SMALL-- the garden is well designed and beautiful. It would be tranquil, as well, if visited without a crowd. I hope to get a membership in order to go at an off time and enjoy the garden at "off" times in all seasons.

All I can say. It was ok but nothing to get over excited about. Well kept gardens. It was a good job I could visit the neighbouring rose gardens for free.

“A beautiful, serene setting”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Walking through the entrance to the Japanese Garden transports you across the Pacific to experience a place of beauty and order. All of the trees, plants, flowers, ponds, waterfalls, and koi in the ponds seem to have been perfectly placed. You can walk through at your own pace, and it would be very easy to spend most of a day just sitting and admiring the scenes that have been so carefully arranged. It was a most enjoyable visit.

“Definitely by far the best Japanese Garden outside Japan”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Before my visit, I thought this so called best Japanese Garden is just another exaggerated advertising, but it is really a beautifully designed and maintained Japanese style garden, one of the best I've seen outside of Japan. I went in the summer, beautiful lush garden, and peaceful zen gardens,a great time to meandering along the up and down path, and appreciate all the details in the garden. It is also very close to the Rose Garden which is high on the list of must see in Portland. The only thing is the gift shop in the garden is too tiny with little authentic collection- wish they could have more Japanese garden crafts.
