“Surprisingly overrated”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Based on the must-see reviews this place gets, I expected more. Instead, what I found was a smallish garden, much of which actually abuts a fairly busy street. Not exactly tranquil. For a fairly average Japanese garden, this place has an outsized reputation. If you happen to be in the area, I guess it's worth a visit, but there are so many better things to see in PDX.

If you want to see a truly phenomenal Japanese garden (that's worth paying for admission), drive a few hours north to Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC. It's impeccably well done.

“Sublime”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

This Japanese Garden is a bit out of the way but worth the trip. The buildings and plants are splendid, well tended and perfectly manicured. If you enjoy relaxing in a beautiful and peaceful setting, this is the place to go.

This garden is so peaceful, it is like being in another world. The tour guide was great, so I highly recommend the tour. I wish every city had such a wonderful garden.

“Another Do NOt Miss!”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

This is said to be the best Japanese garden outside Japan. A guided tour will make this apparent as to the detail in planning and selecting each plant and tree and the placement. Their are wonderful view of Portland, as well.
