Owner description: A historical home with wonderful views of downtown Portland.

A don't-miss in Portland if you love historic houses or gardens, it is a little hard to find, but worth the drive up the hill, isolated (for a city) with great views.

...only because the home is undergoing much-needed renovations so the outside of the building and the surrounding grounds were a mess. The inside of the building is most interesting, but we were disappointed that, because the house was basically abandoned by the Pittock heirs and deteriorated before being saved by historically-minded people, very few of the furnishings are original.

Some out of town friends of ours wanted to visit the Pittock Mansion, so we went along with them. It was very interesting to see the history or Portland through this tour. Tour was very informative and interesting.

Good effort has been made to preserve the history and integrity of the property. When we arrived we were told there was no guided tours for the day but later saw one on tour. Would have been nice to catch it.

If you are passing through the Western Hills of Portland this is a nice place to visit since it's free. It offers a great view of the city. It's a bit tucked away and can be difficult to find. One can walk up to it but it's going to be a long and strenuous walk up some steep hills. Many cyclists ride to it since the hills around it are very challenging and you can try that too as well but you'd better have a right bike and proper cycling gear.
