“A somber,deeply reflective experience.”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

This simple memorial, almost hidden in Washington Park left me emotionally drained and then strengthened . I did not expect to find a Holocaust Memorial in Portland. A beatiful curved wall with a history of the period and deeply moving quotations engraved on the wall left me tearful but gratefull to spend some moments in quiet solitude. Once you get to Washington Park directions are clearly marked.. I am grateful to those who contributed to this Memorial of Remembrance.

We happened upon this and were very glad that we did. The exhibit starts at the large bench facing the walk to the large memorial so look down on the ground to avoid missing a lot of creativity. It is good preparation for a memorial that provides a history of the Jewish community in Portland as well as some of the most moving words I have yet read.

“A Hidden Gem!”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

It is not well marked on the map, it is in Washington Park tucked between SW Wright Ave and SW Washington Way. It is outdoors and free. The wall is simple and profound with excerpts from a collection of victims' diaries. Remains of some victims are reportedly buried under the monument as a means of helping the world remain connected to the travesty. The best part of the monument was the collection of artifacts scattered on the pathway leading to the wall. Well worth 20-30 minutes to view and contemplate.

“a well done sad place”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

I visited the Oregon holocaust memorial is really sad but really well done. It had little medal shoes a broken instrument and a suite case and a dawl on the ground. On the wall it has comments posted by people who new people who died in Auchwiz like (taking poeple to the gas chambers, you had a bag whith something special to you in it, that was the last thing the Nazis took before taking your life). It made ma and dad cry, my mther almost cried looking at the pictures.

“Very moving memorial”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

The Holocaust Memorial is a bit hidden in the Park in Portland but well worth finding. It takes about 15-20 minutes to read etc. We found it very emotional. Very well done.
