Even though I live nearby, it was my first time to Circa. It wasn't crowded when we arrived at around 4:15 p.m. on a Friday. They had some sound-absorbing material in the bar, so people's conversations didn't bombard us we sat there. Also, really liked the mini-booths they had on the east side of the restaurant. The food was quite tasty, but the first drink I had (The Huntress) was lackluster, and I was happy once I switched drinks. Our server pushed us hard to make decisions early on, but then left us alone (a bit too much?) after a while. The timing was off a bit. I liked the decor, the vibe and what was on the menus. If you haven't gone, check it out ...

We met our friends at Circa 33. It has a Speakeasy vibe, along with a hidden room. The decor is nice, and the people in vintage costumes coming in added uniqueness. They were there for a private party, so not a common event.
The drinks and appetizers were good: deviled eggs and beet salad. The food was slow coming to the table. Three of us had burgers. We requested medium but were served very well-done burgers. The chicken sandwich has no flavor, too much bread and was very dry.

We ventured out to experience another Portland Dining Month restaurant & I'm glad we did.
Very comfortable unpretentious spot right in the thick of hipsterville. This old lady felt totally comfortable.
Wait staff were very knowledgeable and easily engaged. They also knew everything about adult beverages. The name refers to prohibition~ well, it's just fun to drink popular drinks from an era long ago.
Food was tasty; choice of duck confit, steelhead or gnocchi. Our table had the steelhead & duck. Both options were well prepared and looked beautiful on the plate. Lots of interesting sides too: house made kimchi (YUM) fried polenta sticks that melted inside your mouth, a wonderful combo of turnips & parsnips that was especially good. However, the star last night was the house made creme brûlée !! It had cinnamon and nice ginger pieces...to die for!
Also, the staff knew exactly what after dinner adult beverage to pair with dessert..

Great place o go when you are saying good by to your 20's and hello to your 30's! We were invited to a party that was a 1920's Roaring 20's theme and this was a great place to have it. We had the private room in the back that we had to give a secret code word to the bartender so that we would get the password to enter the room. Hidden behind a book case and then the fun began. We had our own bartenders which was nice. We were served drinks in mason jars, I had Moscow Mules, YUM. and they served up some yummy sliders and other appetizers for us to enjoy. What a great night

Really cool looking bar with lots of selection and local Portland beers on tap. Flights of liquor and beer. Next time we will have to go on a weekend to get in the secret room.
