“Outstanding 3rd Floor Suite”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

We stayed one night in the third floor suite at Evermore. The suite was HUGE, with a roomy sitting area, a desk, and an oversize bathroom with a double shower and a large claw foot tub. There were also two (albeit small) balconies. The room was exceptionally clean and everything was tastefully done. We didn't end up meeting any of the staff, but everything was explained in a nice note on the bed. And having the kitchen open and breakfast do-it-yourself suited us very well. We made pancakes and enjoyed having no fixed dining hours. If we come to Portland again, we're certainly going to try and stay in the third floor suite at Evermore again.

Room Tip: The third floor suite is amazing. We peeked into some of the other rooms the next morning, and they...

We were in 3rd floor skylight room for four nights, then moved to third floor suite for last night. Loved the neighborhood--walking distance to interesting restaurants, bars, shops, tea, ice cream, coffee. Convenient bike route to downtown--Clinton to 21st to Ladd to Hawthorne Bridge. People at the house were very accommodating--let us keep our bikes in the basement, showed us how to use the washing machine, etc. Self-serve breakfast very Portlandy. Grand old house, very solidly built. First room had a clawfoot tub and a balcony; second had a clawfoot tub and a walk-in shower built for two (one shower head on each end) and two balconies and lots of room. Except for breakfast table conversations we were pretty much unaware of the presence of anyone else there.
I've been using tripadvisor for years, but this is the first time I felt compelled to let the rest of the world know about a place.

We stayed here two nights, and were impressed with the elegant old house, the comfy bed, and our own balcony. Having off-street parking is almost unheard of in Portland, but here it is, right off a busy street. We slept well due to the new, well insulated windows and doors, and our in-room air conditioner. Just as in the Bluebird, good, strong coffee awaits in the morning, as well as pastries and fruit to start your day without having to get "glued together" and seek a coffee shop. We will stay here again; the rates are great, the ambiance just right.

Room Tip: The second floor suite has space to visit with friends or family in the adjoining living room or the...

Beautiful old home with beautifully clean, spacious rooms. Great location. It was so quiet we never knew there were other guests until we got ready to leave the next morning. We spent two nights and would definitely return on our next trip to Portland. Breakfast is simple and self serve, but we liked that.

Room Tip: All the upstairs rooms were beautiful, but the 3rd floor suite is amazing and very spacious. It had...

I loved the simple bed & breakfast style, with a self-service set-up. Don't stay here if you are expecting to be waited on hand and foot, as it is not that kind of place! Do stay here if you love well maintained old houses with tremendous charm, cleanliness, and can appreciate details like organic food, and recycling and composting containers for your garbage. We were given the code to the front door before our arrival, and the keys to our rooms were left in the doors of the rooms we were staying in. Upon walking into the entry, our jaws dropped at seeing the two beautiful stain glass windows on either side of the staircase, and we marveled at the workmanship in the gorgeous, inlaid, wood floors, and Craftsman era details of the house. A caretaker was around during the day, but the caretaker does not clean rooms during the stay, or help carry your bags. You are also responsible for helping yourself to breakfast or snacks in the kitchen, and for cleaning up your mess afterwards.

Our group occupied two rooms; the second floor suite and the ground floor studio apartment. Both rooms were both very clean and comfortable. The rooms do not have TVs, and we did note see one in the house. There was a computer available to use on the ground floor, and the house has good working wi-fi. There is also an industrial washer and dryer in the basement that you can get permission to use, and you may store your food in the main kitchen refrigerator if you are not staying in the apartment (there are labels to put your name on your own food).

Comparing the two rooms, the studio apartment has a queen bed, stall shower, and a kitchenette with small stove, mini refrigerator, and basic place settings and cookware. It also has a small table and two chairs, with easily accessible plugs to charge electronics or use a computer while sitting at the table. The room was extremely quiet, with no audible outside noise, and we only heard very faint sounds of people walking in the rooms above us. The shower did not have a lot of water pressure, and sprayed outside of the shower pan, requiring an extra towel to soak up the water from the floor. Shower aside, I loved the seclusion of the apartment within the house, and would happily stay here again!

The second floor suite has a ing size bed, claw-foot tub, and a sitting room with a fire place (not sure if you can use it, we didn't ask). The traffic on Caesar Chavez Street was audible in the room, and one could also hear the people walking about on the third floor. This is a larger room, and more romantic than the apartment.

Continental breakfast included a variety of bagels, muffins, and breads, cereals with organic milk, coffee, tea, and organic fruit and jams.

We've stayed at the companion property, Bluebird, a few times with reliably good experiences. Recently we tried out the top-floor suite at Evermore and were blown away. I hope to visit a few more times in 2013. Obviously this place is not for you if you require services, but if what you want is a beautiful room in a great location in Portland, this will be VERY hard to beat.

Room Tip: Reserve early for your choice of rooms (3–4 months in advance, probably) but all the rooms are nice...

We stayed in the front suite at Evermore and were so pleased with the room. We had a wonderful king size bed, sitting room and bathroom. We also enjoyed a beautiful balcony up in the trees. I like the idea of a B&B but often the breakfast experience is awkward. I really just want a cup of coffee and am not a morning conversationalist. At Evermore, the breakfast is serve yourself with some bagels, muffins, juice, cereal at your disposal. Whoever wakes up first, flips on the coffee maker. So you don't have to worry about sleeping through breakfast or sitting with strangers. There is a lovely dining room and sitting areas if you do want to visit with other guests. I think this place is perfect for me. It is walking distance (3 blocks) to Division Street restaurants and shops and Clinton Street is a biking street.

Room Tip: The guesthouse faces a busy street. Even though the windows and heavy drapes block out lots of nois...
