“Another world”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

You walk off the busy Portland streets into this magnificent, quiet garden. Spend time, sit on the benches, watch the water. We stayed over an hour just absorbing the atmosphere. This beauty and serenity cannot be in the middle of Portland, but it is. Such a contrast to the lovely Japanese Gardens, one so compact in an urban setting, the other spread out, large, on the hillside.

“GORGEOUS Chinese Garden - a bit pricey”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

This beautiful garden was put together by landscaping experts from China and it is a marvel in the Portland city center. Beautiful pavilions, a waterfall, a pond full of fish and blooming lotus and flowers everywhere. It's amazingly quiet for being in a busy part of the city and provides a tranquil oasis from urban frenzy. The guides and docents are ver friendly and helpful. You might want to take one of their free tours that are thoughtful and full of information. I have been here in the past when it rains and the roof tiles are designed to make the water cascade down in a beautiful natural music. The garden is, in my opinion, a treasure to see.

Be forewarned, it is currently $9.50 (for an adult) to walk in, which seems a bit pricey for a half hour walk in a garden. I'm sure it is expensive to maintain and they do take excellent care of it. I think it's worth it, but if gardens are not your thing, it might seem too much.

“Must see for Portland visitors”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Lan Su Garden was handmade by master craftsmen in Portland's Chinese sister city, Suzhou (international renowned for its urban gardens). The exquisite garden only takes up one square block but is a perfectly authentic immersion into Chinese culture. Rare plants, unique and fascinating design features abound. Tour guides are very knowledgeable. There is always something interesting happening - Chinese music, mah jong, tai chi, scavenger hunts. Kids love the place. Chinese tea and snacks are served at the edge of the reflecting pond - a perfect setting.

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

A Paradise in the middle of older metropolitan area. You step off the street into a totally different world. The authenticity is beyond description. Viewing the plantings alone is worth the price of admission.. Add the architecture and you have a totally stunning experience.

“Don't miss”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

This is a truly gorgeous Chinese garden in the middle of the city. They provide a free tour through the garden, don't miss it. The tour is well worth it as there us a lot of information given. It is a lovely garden to visit and just sit quietly and enjoy a little tranquility
