Aspen Limo Tours is based in Vancouver I think, but covers the whole Portland Metro Area. They have a fleet of limos - from classy black stretch towncars to big Excursion limos. They also have a helicopter. They specialize in tours, but of course they offer all types of Limo services. On their website they list all kinds of great ideas for limo tours around the area. This is a great way for groups or those with deep pockets to enjoy such areas as the wine country, downtown, and the gorge.
Aspen seemed to be more expensive than other local limo companies that I called, but after I spoke to David on the phone he was so enthusiastic and professional that we opted to go with them anyway. Their prices are all-inclusive, so you don't have to worry about things like the mandatory 20% gratuity that other companies require which was nice.
We booked a wine country tour followed by a jaunt into downtown Portland for dinner. We asked for a picnic at an off-the-beaten track vineyard, and to visit some scenic but lesser known wineries off the Dundee trail because we've already been to so many of them over the years. We asked for a bottle of champagne to be in the vehicle, and we let him know what time to pick us up and what time our dinner reservations were. We were specific about wanting a black stretch limo in excellent condition, with black interior, and asked for a very long 12 hour day - even though most limo tours cap out at 8 hours. He said no problem, and I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.
David was there to meet us at our hotel right on time, the limo was sparkling clean, fully stocked, and had our bottle of champagne ready to go. We picked up our friends at their home nearby, and headed for the wine country. The limo was well set up with CD, DVD, iPOD hookup, TV, mini-bar, neon lights, A/C, moonroof, and everything you'd expect. Rode and drove very smooth.
We visited Ardiri first, which was a great choice for a picnic - a scenic drive up there, and the place was lovely to sit at and enjoy our food. Just a few other people there, outdoor fireplace and fire pit, lounge chairs and picnic tables. David arranged catering from Applewood in Vancouver that was simple but good though it could have been better with some horseradish or other spreads to go with the meat, fruit and cheese. Next stop on the lovely scenic drive was Arborbrook which was not very scenic itself but had great wines down the list and an enthusiastic owner who made it a great experience. Last we visited Stangeland, where he scored us a great deal on Pinot Noir. He had two other excellent choices on our list including one of our favorite picnic spots - Witness Tree - but we were taking our time and enjoying so didn't have time.
All through our trip, David was enthusiastic about wine and our satisfaction, gregarious and friendly. He offered to roll up the divider in the beginning so we could have privacy, but we declined, preferring a more social atmosphere. I could tell that he was rolling with us, catering to our preferences. He was prompt and on time at every turn, attentive without being intrusive, and tried to make it fun with things like attempting the ferry crossing in a limo, getting some strange looks from the local folks as the limo was as big as the ferry.
We couldn't have been happier with David and Aspen Limo Tours, and would definitely recommend them based on our experience as a great way to see the wine country and more of Washington and Oregon.
