“understated elegance”
Reviewed 20 August 2012

There are quite a few lovely boutique hotels in Portland but I did my research on the Paramount. We were immediately impressed with why the Paramount is a boutique hotel upon entering the building with its classic old school lovely, intimate lobby and attentive and solicitous staff. The room was comfortable with modern amenities including a small refrigerator which we loaded up with groceries from the Trader Jo's. We took advantage of the valet parking which we couldn't really avoid because a car is necessary for exploring the nearby Columbia Gorge but street parking was available during the day. What made the decision for us was really the central location of Paramount Hotel which made it a perfect spot for exploring other neighborhoods, plus its competitive pricing was very attractive. I would highly recommend this hotel for Portland visitors.

My boyfriend and I go to Portland about once a year and always stay in a different hotel because we haven't found one we liked enough to go back. This year was different. We will definitely be returning to the Paramount because it was so comfortable and the staff was so friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant has excellent food, and the location is wonderful! Just a few short blocks from Powell's, and an easy drive up to the zoo and International Rose Garden. The valet parking was quite reasonably priced as well.

A travel agent booked the hotel for us at a very good price. We had a corner room which was large, quiet, and very comfortable, and the bathroom was huge. The room was very clean and the decor elegant and restful. The staff was always helpful, the breakfasts at Te in the lobby very good and reasonably priced. The hotel's location was so convenient- we walked to dinner every night. Even getting on the freeway for day trips out of town was easy. We will definitely return.

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon. The staff was amazing and the location was great. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had a good view. We loved that there was a lot of shopping and dining within walking distance. It was also very easy to get onto the MAX Light Rail. We will be staying here again the next time that we are in Portland.
The only thing that would have made it better would have been a free breakfast, but we knew that one wasn't included before we booked.

There is something about the staff and the rooms--and the location--that makes this place special. Not to mention that the price was also pretty darned reasonable. No, there wasn't a pool (darn it), and breakfast wasn't included, and valet parking IS expensive, but we thought we were pretty lucky being able to stay here. The room was lovely and luxurious, the bed beyond comfortable. Ed, on bellman duty, was very helpful.
We tend to go for "value" properties, but even my penny-loving hubby loved this place. It's handy to several good restaurants, downtown, the Wednesday farmer's market, and transit (note: we were told the wonderful MAX tram system will no longer be free within the downtown after the end of August--a pity!). Great staff.

My wife and I really enjoyed this hotel. It was easy to get to on the MAX light rail from the airport (and cheap too!). The train stop was just 2 short blocks from the hotel. We didn't need a car for the whole week. Room service was great and the menu selections were both interesting and tasty. Servings were big enough too. Lots of other restaurants in the area. We especially appreciated the non-smoking and no partying policies. They seem to want their guests to enjoy themselves without imposing on others. The Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. Too bad they don't have a jacuzzi or pool.

Room Tip: Our corner room was spacious.

As I booked the Paramount, the map made it look like it was on the fringe of things. Not so. In truth, every hotel within the 'downtown zone' has a fantastic location. Its just a matter of how much one is willing to spend. And in Portland, discount travel sites are NOT going to be of much help. $150 (if you're very lucky) to 'the sky is the limit' should be expected.
But I digress....

Paramount Portland is a wonderfully priced, wonderfully situated hotel. Located just inches from the Art and History museum, inches from Pioneer Sq, inches from the Farmers Market, and no more than 3 lite-rail stops from the Saturday Market, Old Town, and the Pearl District. There are lite-rail stops just a short block away.

Right acoss the street from an urban park (and Starbucks), the Paramount is an elegant, beautifully appointed hotel. Rooms are nicely sized and very stylishly decorated. Elevators are plentiful and the staff extremely attentive.

The hotel features all the expected amenities including a well followed sushi restaurant, and an asian themed lounge, both on the first floor. I had a very comfortable stay and would happily return.

Travelers Tip: Valet-ing your car is virtually anavoidable in Portland. And no hotel is going to let you off for less than $30 a day. But once you come to grips with this extra cost, you will enjoy Portland all the more. And the Paramount is a great place it start.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side of the hotel allow the dawning sun to pour through the windows, and since th...
