Hilton Garden Inn Portland Airport
Ranked #47 of 144 Hotels in Portland
Reviewed 25 October 2011

I have stayed numerous times at this hotel, prior to or after a flight in/out of PDX. It’s an airport hotel, complete with complimentary shuttle to the terminal. The property has park and fly rates which might seem high, but upon checking out all of the other airport hotels the price is competitive. If you are without a car, you can catch the shuttle back to the terminal at PDX and catch “MAX”, the light rail train that will take you into downtown Portland. There is a stop at Cascade Station, just a few minutes from the terminal (terminating stop for the MAX red line train). This shopping complex includes IKEA, and the only Leatherman, Carhartt, and YoCrem shops in the country!

My most recent stay was just this past weekend for an overnight weekend get-a-way and to see “Oklahoma” at Portland Center Stage. I got a great AAA rate at this property so opted for the airport area instead of downtown. Upon arrival (which I was early), Linda (the very helpful and gracious front desk clerk) indicated my room wasn’t quite ready. Not a problem, besides it gave me the opportunity to grab a quick bite for lunch. Linda had already upgraded me to a suite (HiltonHHonors Gold). Usually when I stay at Hilton Garden Inn’s I have to ask if it is possible to be upgraded.

Rooms at this property are showing their age and in dire need of updating and renovating. Talking with the front desk staff, they indicated the entire Hilton Garden Inn properties would be getting major facelifts and renovations, which will be consistent brand-wide. Throughout my travels and stays a HGI’s I’ve noticed that many properties have been upgraded, while many still have the ’80 and 90’s look. The suite was very comfortable despite a couple non-working lights. The bed is always nice at HGI’s – the sleep number-style beds are great! I’m curious what the brand-wide upgrades will bring to the properties!

If you’re looking for a hotel room prior to an early morning flight, or upon returning very late at night before a long drive home, this is a good property with good rates. Be sure and request the park and fly rates when booking!

The hotel offers only breakfast and is the typical HGI buffet style, or you can request cooked to order omelets, etc. Its okay, being it’s complimentary for HiltonHHonor Golds.

One note about the noise level at this property. Rooms on the north side tend to be a bit noisier due to street traffic and jets departing from one of the multiple runways.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side are a bit noisier due to street traffic on NE Airport Way.

Not sure if we got the poor room because we asked for the AARP discount or because thats all they have is poor rooms. The room was simi-clean, sheets were thread bare & no mattress cover on bed. Creeped me out. The bath was the worst, sink falling out of vanity, tub spout over an inch out of tub wall, some brown stuff had run down the door facing. There was a large hole patched in the bathroom over the shower. You can't open the door to the room with the bathroom door open, they open into each other. The rooms weren't set up without much thought to flow. I would never recommend this hotel. Very poor hotel, even for the low rate.

I've been staying here since it opened in 1999 - when they had no hot water because the hotel was so new.
The hotel is well serviced, great value, clean, excellent room service and some of the nicest people in the Hospitality Industry, particularly Diane Parks and Anwar.
There are lots of choices around PDX, choose THIS hotel

Room Tip: Keep in mind its about 15 minutes to the air terminal and there is a small stop and rob just before...

Just like other holiday inn near airport, good value for the room. Bed is okay, clean room. The building is old, but it was renovated when we were there.

Although convenient to the airport, so are the other 20 hotels. What seperates these offerings aside from a coat of paint or maybe more elegant lobby fixtures, is basic customer service. The Hilton Garden Inn has nice rooms and an elegant lobby. Front desk seemed a bit asleep at the wheel. Called earlier in the day to make sure a crib would be in the room. Just like that commercial for whatever hotel chain. Came in around 8:30pm with the sleeping baby in tow, yet somehow the friendly person on the phone who ensured me that there would be a crib somehow forgot to mention to anyone or record in the computer system.

To the front desk's credit, they quickly moved a spare bed up to the room (yes, not a crib). About 30 minutes later and one little awake fussy guy (the baby not me, although some could argue) we finally got a crib, but then no sheets for it. Eventually, the stars aligned and we were able to get settled.

Needless to say, it is these little things that are sometimes overlooked that differentiate one hotel from another.

We used this place as our way station after a day of Willamette Valley wine tasting as were doing wine tasting in the Columbia River Gorge the next day. Clean & Convenient. Staff was quite friendly & helpful. No dinner available that night (sounded like the cook didn't show up). Had a suite & were very comfortable. Wish they had rooms with whirlpool tubs. Made use of their free shuttle & had dinner at the airport..

I stayed here in September. Two blonde white ladies that go by Karen and another I think the assistant manager that goes by Caryn both made my experience at this hilton garden inn pretty bad. I love hilton hotels. Stay their all the time.

These two gals had no idea about how to talk to customers or the concept of customer service. It seems this hotel has alot of staff turnover. The blonde younger caryn is rude to customers when you call them from your room for enquiring about anything such as ordering some room service or basic enquiries about services offered at the hotel

They have no idea about how to get around the city of Portland so do not bother asking them about directions, points of interest, or any useful information if your wanted to see something or get somewhere.

They did not even know the basic shuttle service offered from the airport to downtown is called blue star costing 14$ and goes every half hour. I unnecessarily spent 45 bucks on a cab.

The younge blonde lady caryn is always trying to rush cutomers and sit her in corner back office, avoiding customer contact or problem solving. I saw this with other customers too. She rushes through really quick and runs back to her office or hangs up the phone quickly before you can talk. It is very bad on behalf of hilton that they have these two karen and caryn gals working her spoiling the customer experience.

I found a wet used towel in my room when i walked in the first night.

Another annoying thing is a older chinese looking dude who keeps roaming around the hotel staring customers down. He is very suspiscious guy. And very rude, I found him screaming at children trying to use the pool with parents around.

The last and another annoying factor is the morning breakfast server. He is over the top loud, clumsy and obnoxious. I saw him dropping stuff all over the place and my made to order pancake tasted like rubber.

The bed had a nice mattress. The hotel was cheap, but costs much more in your sorrow and bad experience. would never ever go their or recommend it to anybody

THEY NEED NEW STAFF
