“Not really for kids”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Read about this place in local restaurant guide and it stood out for being suitable for kids.

Unfortunately the only kid thing of note was that a large sheet of paper with the kids menu written in crayon is given to the child.

The food was not great. I felt quite ill after a sausage I ate. We were very disappointed with the food especially having made a trip to get there from the other side of Portland.

We were left feeling like it was a bit "too cool for school". Despite the pretence of being somewhat kid freindly, we were clearly not the desired demographic. This was confirmed by being offered a not great table in a mostly empty room. We asked to get a table further over with banquette seats that seemed more confortable but were denied it. Some 10 minutes later a young couple were given the same large table that was denied to us 4.

“nice place, inside especially”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

Airplane, Joplin, Stones, Zeppelin, and more playing inside. Very attractive inside. Server very good and attentive and interactive. Interesting Salmon chips and couldn't believe that steak tartar is back - WITH the raw egg! Give the "seeing clearly" vodka a try!

“Tasty business!!”

An excellent NW restaurant, serving high quality, locally sourced and well prepared food. All served in a great venue by friendly and attentive staff.

Do I need to say more?

“Inventive, convivial, intimate”
Reviewed 30 June 2013

We came for a weekend dinner, and I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the inventiveness of the menu. I had the Payne Family Pork, which was a warm pork loan sliced and served with a cool garnish of green apples and grilled fennel. The savory pork and tart garnish with a little crunch worked perfectly. I had a mushroom salad, which was really a lettuce salad with mushrooms and crispy bits of wild rice. The desert was a rhubarb crumble with Salt and Straw buttermilk ice cream - yum! The space is pretty intimate, dominated by the bar with classic record album covers. Fair warning though - the time we visited was during a very warm evening in Portland and the air conditioning was pretty poor.

“New menu, much better, worth a second chance”
Reviewed 30 June 2013 via mobile

Went to the bent brick about a year ago, the menu was "interesting" and a bit too eclectic. They recently changed their menu and the difference was very noticeable, much more approachable and very tasty. The fried pickles were awesome and the cocktails as well. The portions were healthy we had some leftovers. We had the tacos (very good) and the hot dog (tasty but was lacking something, maybe the snap, of a natural casing was missing?). The creamed greens were great as we're the duck fat jojos. Their stock has for sure gone up but i think they have some stomachs to win back.
