We recently stayed for one night at Avalon. The best part of our Avalon experience was the good customer service and our experience eating at the hotel restaurant though we wouldn't make a special trip to eat there again. People were friendly and helpful throughout. When I mentioned we couldn't get wi-fi in our Riverside King and that wi-fi was important to us, we were promptly moved to a comparable room with great wi-fi.
Upon arrival, we were disappointed with our room relative to the price and features. It sells itself as somewhat upscale but isn't chic in any way. I was told by the front desk that the wi-fi is spotty throughout the building. Ancient Zenith tv's are pretty unacceptable. The bed was fine but not memorably comfortable. Seriously sub-par continental breakfast was an appropriate end.
Over all, it was disappointing. We don't feel that it's good value for the money (and we paid less than the going rate with a Livingsocial voucher), and we likely will not return simply because it wasn't anything special. I'd rather pay the same for a downtown location.More
