We live on the Oregon Coast and are frequently in Portland for "urban escapes" or MD appointments. The Avalon has become our favorite hotel. Although difficult to find initially, it does not disappoint once there. Be sure to get a riverfront room, so you can wake in the morning to the lovely, quiet scene outside your windows. Also a small patio for the nicer weather. And a lovely walking path next to the river--just steps from the hotel. And best of all, it is so quiet.

We stay at the Avalon when we come to PDX. It's just south of downtown in the Macadam district and very nice and quiet. Easy access to all major freeways so getting where you need to be is easy. There's also a towncar that will take you downtown and there's a MAX trolley station within walking of the hotel.

Everyone from the valet to the desk staff are almost always smiling and friendly. Checkin is very smooth and prompt. The rooms are nicely laid out and they have a great shower and bathroom. Typical amenities. A nice touch is the two chairs and ottoman that you can turn and face out the window. You'll also notice the European multifunction door that opens onto the patio. Read the instructions, it functions as a window that tilts and opens or as a door, too.

WIFI is reasonable, though I'd recommend that they put a couple more AP's in to increase coverage, it's a little spotty at the far end of the build and on the upper floors.

Morning brunch. What's funny is that PDX is a city of coffee drinkers. Lots of coffee all over. Remarkable really. So, why in the world do they have such god-awful coffee for the continental breakfast? I mean, get a ton of sugar and cream. The breakfast, other wise, is great. (hint: take your tray under the ice bucket and use it to carry back your goodies for you and your partner).

The views of the Willamette river are spectacular no matter the season. Sunrise with fog off the river is beautiful. Easily one of the best comfortable views of many places we've stayed.

Room Tip: Always request a room away from the elevator. And if you're nice about it, they'll frequently upgrade you to a river view room for free. Excellent choice.

We were treated so kindly and felt comfortable right away. Our room was peaceful and had all the amenities we could ask for. The hotel was quiet and we slept very well. The continental breakfast was just right and convenient to our room. It was clear that the staff was dedicated to making guests feel welcome.
We will return to the Avalon when we visit Portland again. Everything about it was spot on.

Room Tip: Our room faced the river and waking up to that scene was amazing.

Our recent stay at the Avalon Hotel in Portland far exceeded our expectations. The staff is courteous and quick without being unnecessarily over the top. The room was spacious and luxuriously appointed. Fresh feeling. We had a view deck overlooking the Willamette River.

The workout room is the best we have ever experienced at a hotel and is open 24 hours a day. There is also a nice paved walking/running trail heading south from the Avalon along the Willamette. You'll see lots of walkers, runners and bikers.

A plentiful, quality continental breakfast is served on each floor of the hotel near the elevator which allows you to grab and go or grab and return to your room or deck. Nice touch.

One down side is parking. The hotel does not own its own lot, so cars must be valet parked. The rate is reasonable, but there is no self-parking near the hotel. You can park the car at the hotel and take the nearby streetcar into the downtown core which also connects to the Pearl District. Cost for all day is $2.00. Great!

Came here for a wedding. The view from the room onto the river was quiet and relaxing and very beautiful. The rooms were very comfortable and accommodating. The continental breakfast in the AM has good coffee and your basic assortment of yoghurt and cereal. But it is located on every floor, so it was very convenient to put on the plush provided robes and make a quick run for coffee, juice and snack and take back to your room to enjoy. The restaurant right next door has great food and wine and the bar was lively and fun. Great place. I would stay here again!
