Very small place. Excellent food. Obvious attention to detail and hand crafted food. Good. but not great wine list.

A short walk from our hotel, which was perfect on an evening of pouring rain. Staff very welcoming, wine list excellent, food was perfect. The in-house made bread was some of the best I have ever had. We sat at the small bar which overlooks the open kitchen. Watching the young chefs prepare the dishes added to the enjoyment. And the dishes they created will not disappoint you! The only thing I would change is their choice of music. A little to new-agey and a little too loud. Everyone there were couples trying to have conversations and not trying to shout at each other.

Our concierge recommended this restaurant and we loved the idea of walking to it from our hotel. It has a very cozy and friendly atmosphere and our phone was really good. Service was great!

Decent - but not great. Scratch that - most of the dinner could only be described as decent, that is not true for the panna cotta . . . which was great.

My wife and I went to Mucca Osteria on a date night (a rare event with a three year old in the house and busy travel schedules). I made a reservation and hoped for an intimate evening. Not so much. The restaurant is very crammed on the main floor. In fact, it is so cramped that it would be better to set up community style eating tables. Just to provide a little credence to the tight-quarters of the place, when the waiter came over to explain the specials - he did so to our table and the table immediately adjacent to us . . . because as he put it - "you're going to hear any way, you're so close to one another."

We ordered a variety of foods. Starting with a traditional Roman salad, venturing into a wonderfully prepared scallop dish, moving to a cured meat dish and then ending with a mushroom risotto. All, sans the scallops, of the dishes were okay - not great. Well, that is until we got to desert. Which was awesome.

The long and short of it - Mucca Osteria is not a bad place; but, in a city like Portland, where fantastic Italian restaurants abound - there are much better choices for a night on the town.

I do want to make a special mention to the server. He was super knowledgable, very polite, very professional and really helped to make the meal a more enjoyable experience.

Dined at Mucca couple of weeks ago on a Monday evening. First thing that strikes you is the open kitchen and the relaxed but professional ambience. Made feel very welcome and our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the food and its provenance. We sat upstairs where it was a little quieter and easier to talk. Highlight was the shared Antipasti plate but that's not to say the entrees were any less enjoyed. In fact, everything was a delight to eat and the whole experience was on of the best I've had in Portland (where there are many great restaurants). Mucca is reasonably priced, lovely atmosphere and great care is taken with the ingredients and their cooking. It fully deserves its ratings
